News of BBC News' job cuts being announced now by James Harding.

415 jobs to go, though 195 new posts will be created, so 220 is the net loss of jobs. This will definitely be noticed. Big focus on digital & original journalism.

Expect more strike action then!

Unusual in a way- they could go on strike saying these jobs are vital to operations and shouldn't be axed but if they strike it also shows that bbc news can be run on a very small amount of staff on a strike day hence showing perhaps less positions are needed :-s

From the BBC Press Release -
Newsroom – Proposals include increased sharing of production teams and international programming by the BBC News Channel and BBC World News; a move to single-headed presentation on the BBC News Channel; combining the World Service and Radio newsrooms, combining production teams for the World Tonight and Newshour programmes.

Programmes Department – The main savings proposed arise from production changes to Panorama, Newsnight and Newsbeat; a reduction in the TV current affairs budget; closer working between Current Affairs and the daily Radio 4 news programmes; streamlining of planning.

Here's hoping with the schedule change that are coming that they NC viewers the 9pm-10pm hour from World as well. I'm surprised Business Edition hasn't already been put onto the NC...

Sounds dreadful. They can make it sound amazing all they like, it's basically a simulcast of BBC World news onto the news channel. To save money, obviously.

Ellie Crissell to go, by the sounds of it.

I suppose with hindsight you can see why Carrie, Matthew and others have left the channel. I wonder where Ellie Crisell is off to..

I don't see anything wrong with that actually. I much prefer World over the Nc anyway...
