Is the news channel showing some of world's countdowns now, or are they just showing some different ones? I just wondered as the midnight countdown had Katya Adler close to the end and I don't recall seeing it before. Also I didn't think she would be on the news channel ones as I don't think she presents very often on the news channel.

That's seems to be a normal one, its usually the 10pm one that's a mashup of World music and NC graphics.

Ah right thanks, I've just never seen it before! I meant the graphics /visuals rather than the music by the way.

The BBCWN now loves using the countdown version where there is a gigantic robot where its head can turn. I wonder why. (Not really a movie buff, but is that Transformers?)

So it can look at either screen?

Having watched World for a whole day yesterday, and yes it is. They show that version almost every time.

Japanese Anime fan here, it's a Gundam statue. (I've actually pointed it out before, from what I remember.)
I guess the countdown was recorded when the Gundam statue was in Odaiba.

Really? From what I see, I thought BBCWN's favourite countdown was the smiling Orla Guerin.

They use the Orla Guerin one at other times, but mostly they use the Gundam statue version. BBCWN seems to play the original ones lesser than before.

What I mean "original ones" is the first 4 versions of the countdown (but with the small WN box of course).

Thanks Bakamann, I didn't read the earlier parts of the forum so didn't notice you mentioning it. Ah now, I know it's Gundam. Yes, they do use that really like almost always these days. Smiling Orla Guering I think has been put behind. I'm not exactly sure why they like the Gundam so much! Probably it gives an idea of 'fun' other than mundane news.

For those interested, the original 4 version of coundown is available on Youtube last I checked. There is even a version where 4 countdown videos are put on 1 screen to show you the differences as the four of them progress through the countdown.

Side track a little bit to opening themes, I noticed they seem to use some very old ones for World News America and World News Today with Zeinab. The fonts and the globe motive seems to date back ages ago.

considering that Spencer Kelly is not even a regular reporter of BBC News... though hosting one of the most popular tech show, Click.

This is a good video on youtube regarding the countdown, we hear samples of music that may not have made the cut
