BREAKING NEWS - According to TV Newsroom, a Senior source at the BBC says there will not be any major changes to News 24 as reported!

UPDATE:
In the article, it states that News 24 will not be brought into line with the National News' current look, the grey and red colour schemes. It says also that rebranding News 24 to simply BBC News "will not happen for some time".

Thats what I assumed. Didn't the article say that the rebranding to BBC News won't happen for a while?

I just hope they keep the set, or at least rejig it, with a video screen or something. I just like those desks. If I could, I would buy one!

An intresting point is that now most people now have access to multi channel television, yet the main bulletins still attract a healthy audience, because of the type of bulletins they are, providing a summary of the days events within a half hour time frame, therefor there is a demand for the existence of the nationals.

Absolutely - as long as the BBC One bulletins provide something other than rolling news, I'm sure their existence is very secure after everyone goes digital.

After all, BBC Three and BBC Four both have news content, even though all their viewers have access to News 24 as well.

I've been thinking about how N24 could change their set to match the nationals set without "doing a sky" or losing the live newsroom background, which I think we agree is vitally important to the look and feel of a rolling news background.

I was wondering about the possibility of using the technology seen in the five news set, I'm not sure about technical terminology but it appears to be clear screens that images can be projected on to. If this was installed along the back of the set in the shape of the nationals set it would mantain the newsroom background and allow the use of videowalls. It could be very impressive if done correctly, with the newsroom background most of the time and then the impact of images and text suddenly appearing on top of it - potentially better than the nationals set!

The other alternative could be installing video walls like the nationals, but only in the presentation area and on the extreme left of the set, for use for the TOTH, special reports, sport and business etc, again leaving the newsroom background for the main news desk.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

I think the one, six and ten will continue for at least a few years after digital switchover, as they are some of the flagship programming of the entire BBC. They've also been there so long, that they are part of the channel. Just because people can switch over to news 24 any time they want doesn't mean they will. My 90 year old grandmother (if she's still around then) will probably be shouting at the TV "where's the news?" if she has BBC1 on at 6 and it shows something else, just because they've turned off some transmitters.

I think we will loose all the news updates throughout the rest of the schedule, possibly even breakfast, but I think the main three bulleitins will be here for a while yet.

Of course the 1, 6 & 10 will continue, the main reason is because they are a different type of news bulletin from those on the news channels. For example news channels can drop all the stories in an entire hour and just role with breaking news, where as the purpose of the 1, 6 & 10 is to inform the viewer of the days events. The bulletins existence will continue atleast to the next charter renewal in 2016, but i expect the bulletins to continue beyond that point.

An intresting point is that now most people now have access to multi channel television, yet the main bulletins still attract a healthy audience, because of the type of bulletins they are, providing a summary of the days events within a half hour time frame, therefor there is a demand for the existence of the nationals.

The news will continue on BBC1 because it is part of the new service licence which the BBC is appointing to each channel. Every channel will be measured against set criteria and monitored by the governors/trustees. BBC1 will have to provide news and family entertainment plus other things which are still being argued over.
Ironically the BBC will be controlled and regulated in a similar way that the IBA dictated what happened on ITV. As long as the trustees are separate form government it should work. Exclamation

The article was mainly to refute the claims that News 24 will change its "on-air look" in the next few months. That is not going to happen - News 24 will not adopt the new colours etc...

The rebranding is likely to happen anyway (though not for a year or so) as was mentioned on here a few months ago but was missed by quite a few people...

gilsta's idea is rather good - i'vr been wanting that for a while, with wrap-around screens in the sile studios.

It all looks rather unprefessional when in the middle of a buisness report the reader will walk across to a side studio - could they not use a buisness sting or somthing to cover the gap?

The '24' bit of BBC news 24' is soooooo origional - you dont get Sky News 24 do you? If (and when) they drop it the whole channel will lose it's brand - I mean '...And if you switch over to BBC News now you can see more on all of these stories, but here on BBC1 - the weather with Joe Bloggs...' It just sounds so boring!
Confused
Also, could they not continue the 10 o'clock news hour in the 1,6 and 10 studio keeping with the scrolling bar and tower, AND the 10 o'clock headline graphics like they do when it's simulcast onto News 24?
