Many people have complained about how the BBC news isn't a "brand" anymore, because of the variety of styles. Why don't the regionals do a Wales Today style and have the BBC swirls animate around a map of the region or something? i don't think that the regions look joined to the National output any more!

well you can search through 80 odd pages in the great big BBC news shuffle if you want to!

I don't think all the titles are made by the same people and I doubt the budget for some regions is as vast as the bigger regions so it's hardly practical for them to change titles everytime the national or n24 do.

They may have different styles in each region but overall they still have the key link - the music which really is the biggest and most successful part of it's brand.

I think people like to see images of their region, and the people, because that's what regional news is mainly about; people. They'd prefer them to just animation.

However, there could be a compromise. Ribbons and images of the region? May look too busy though.

I don't think they could do anything to please everyone.
When News first went uber-consistent across regions etc. everyone complained that it stopped letting individual regions breathe. And now that individual styles are being staggered across its output, apparently we're all missing having a consistent brand again?
Piffle.

well no, what we have now is a series of half arsed attempts to make a look similar to London and/or ancient sets of titles that have been rehashed over and over again (reporting scotland)

I think it's good now that the regions can have their own images within the titles but the need to copy London with the red is a bit too much. That's why Midlands Today, Spotlight and South Today are better (with titles anyway) as they have differences from the simple red with ringlets and writing.

The "map" titles were hated in many regions - especially the regions that don't have a particularly memorable "map outline".

Some regions - like BBC East and BBC South West have loads of coast-line and are instantly recognisable in outline form. However other regions just look silly in this format...

I think EVERYONE was very glad to say good bye to the uninspired, dull, animating type with regional placenames revealing style...

I watched Spotlight's titles from 1999.

**** amazing, they were. THAT'S how to do it.

Compared with the dross we're subjected to at the moment, it's not surprising that people want continuity.

Indeed.

West, for instance, with a totally unrecognisable bit of the Bristol Channel at top left and the incredibly famous (not), border between Mendip's coverage and that of Stockland, Rowridge and Ridge Hill.

East Midlands and Midlands were probably the worst, what with them not having any coastline

If they were still in use today I dread to think what Look North Leeds's would look like now they've split away from Hull
