The Guardian is reporting that the BBC News Channel is to lose 3 more presenters from its current line-up in another round of job cuts that will see a total of 24 staff made redundant.

This is a real sad shame. The Channel is already operating on bare minimums as it is!

BBC World News is also to lose news and business presenters in the cuts.

I wish everyone at BBC News well. It looks like the difficult times are set to continue.

As it mentions afternoons will go single headed, sadly I can see one of the affected presenters being Simon McCoy or Jane Hill, which would be a shame as they make a brilliant partnership. I don't see how any more savings can be made at the weekends as they're already on the bare minimum with the current slots being 9-2, 2-7 and 7-midnight. I can also see Ben Brown finally moving back to a reporting role, since he's effectively been without a proper slot for nigh on 2 years now.

How about axing the Derbyshire show? That'd save some money on studio and production costs. Or at least moving it to E.

I wonder if we're looking at 5-6 hour shifts at the weekends? Also worth noting in the article that the NC would also be live from 2030 again, so I wonder if Outside Source will get the chop for domestic viewers?

Outside Source is 21:00 onwards so I can't see them getting rid unfotunantly. It's made clear in the report that - "The presenter cuts will not affect those whose main role is anchoring programmes on BBC1 or BBC2." - so it looks like Derbyshire will stay i'm afraid.
The changes on World are presumably related to Victoria Fritz's tweet this morning that the late edition of Biz Live would end so i wonder if that Biz shift will go completely.

During the summer Global was axed for extended editions of GMT & Impact, with World News Today coming from Washington most days I wonder whether this was a trial?

It may be possible if the BBC One presenter also does the NC bulletins. I believe lunchtime weekend bulletins are already from the NC presenter. As mentioned, there's no redundancies among network news presenters, so there may be a cost saving there.

As for the Business news redundancy at BBC World News. I think there's only one presenter who's exclusive to World, Tanya Beckett. (She's on the NC for Talking Business, which is a World commission). Even Aaron covers shifts on the NC.

No presenter is exclusive to World News - Even Tanya has appeared on the news channel although it will be her World slot that goes.

Bad move, unless the 1730 World Business Report and 2000 Biz Live come from New York instead?

The business unit have appeared to be a presenter down for a number of months (as in before Alice Baxter's maternity leave) with Ben Bland covering a number of business shifts, so it may be that no presenter has to depart.

In that case, they could extend the biz shift from 1000 to include the early evening WBR seeing as Aaron is getting a new 1430 show. The evening Biz Live is heavily targeted at a US audience, so will be a blow, but it's not like they don't have a plethora of biz channels in the States covering the markets.

That tweet also seems to suggest Aaron Hestlehurst is getting some kind of programme at 14:30, is this currently a business slot on world news?

Currently Impact. This slot may replace the 1730 edition of World Business Report which is part of the axed 2000 Biz Live shift.
