Now this thread has almost reached 100 pages, I wanted to ask if anyone's opinions of the rebrand have changed over the past 6 weeks. I know many people took an instant dislike to it, but others were on the fence.

Personally, I feel it has become too boring. The idea ws never original enough to start with, and now all the hype has gone, it just seems bog-standard.

Also, I saw almost a copy of the BBC News globe on the door of Boarders Bookshop in York, and was told by the staff that the logo has been on there for years. Seems someone at Lambie-Nairn has cheated in the design process!

Still think BBC News 24 was better, better vamp, better graphics, it felt like a 24 hr fast paced news channel

Re the Titles, I think one of the biggest problems has been how little variation they've introduced between the different titles. Stuff like Reporting Scotland are pretty much exactly the same, albeit with a slightly different colour grade. The World News Today titles are the same as the regional titles, and even World News America looks pretty much the same. I think they've gone too far trying to create a cohesive look, and it's now just boring. Even the break bumper on World gives you exactly the same graphics as from the opening titles. You basically get sick of the globe, and I fear, sick of the pips.

Whether it's because they tried to do an entire rebrand with only 550,000 quid, or just laziness, I think that they've really missed the ball. If only LN had done something more lijke their 1999 package, with its seemingly limitless variations on the same theme (both musically and visually) this would have stood the test of time. Instead, I now can't wait for the Broadcast to start 'corrupting' the looks with new bits and pieces.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Essentially there are only three basic title sequences: the main opening title sequence, the regional / World News America one, and the bottom of the hour sting. All others are just tweaked variations.

I actually like the new titles and style of animation, but I do feel a little more variation would make the brand seem a bit bigger.

As for 'corrupted' looks, I happened to catch the opening of Newsline last night which had specially edited titles to mark the visit of George Bush. It featured lots of accompanying images mixed in with the titles - quite a mess. For some reason though, the edition hasn't been updated to view online from the Newsline website.

I do hope they diversify the titles a bit, one of the main problems I had with the black and red, was that it was everywhere, and the titles were dull and the same everywhere.

At least the titles have variety, even if most of the titles are the same...

Exactly - too little variation, and the World News Today titles are just awful, particularly the way they just cut from the regional version to their endboard. I do like the TOTH titles though.

I thought I'd get over the studio change, but I haven't. It's dull and they're not even making good use of the screens. I also think the 6 looks out of place now in TC7.

Graphics are still awful. Why they couldn't use the previous set with some tweaks to make it white instead of black and change the globe graphic I don't know.

My main problem with this whole revamp is how they are incapable of allowing an hour to go well, particularly at the TOTH. There've been so many mistakes, I don't actually know what a usual TOTH should be like. I think this is all due to the introduction of the thunderclaps - there was no need for them on News 24. If anything, I think it slows the pace down. And they should make up their mind which they want to use: thunderclaps or transition. Both together doesn't work!!!

There's also the problems with the name changes, but I think I've said enough about that in the Nationals thread...

What the TOTH should be IMO is the thunderclaps between headlines, and then for the Coming Up segment no thunderclaps. I'm not sure but most Regions at 1/6/10 don't use thunderclaps in their headline segment, (I know Newsline and ironically the News channel don't use them.)

That was what I was confused about, because there are often thunderclaps which I did think was a bit odd.

Thankfully .... the end of the Ten hiatus seems to have resolved itself, the Huw Edwards - Chris Eakin handovers seem to work well now.

I cannot agree with you more, the question is why are there so many problems?

Handing over to the weather, graphics crashing, presenters not sure whats coming up, wrong footage being shown, footage freezing or not even playing and the list goes on.

Why do they experience so many problems?

EDIT: Chis has had to appologise as they can't show the front pages of the papers digitally because 'there's a problem'! Luckily they have the paper copies, albeit in strange blue font?

Discussed at length a while back..they're sent in by the newspapers and they print them off, apparently the printer they use is low on toner Razz
