Nice cock up at the end of the National simulcast on the NC. We joined Tomasz Shafernacker who seemingly couldn't tell if he was on air for the weather, hethen after a short pause had a strop saying "I dont know if im on, gallery over to you" whilst hanging up his clicker.

Cut to the BOTH sting and then the studio with Joanna who exclaimed that he would be paid handsomely by Aunties Bloomers for that Laughing
Meanwhile over on BBC One a (pre recorded?) Weather bulletin with Phil Avery went as smooth as you like. I'm surprised at two things, 1. there is no monitor in the Weather studio showing exactly what the output from the News channels are at that minute,
2. There was a requirement for 2 seperate weather forecasts at the exact same time.

Apologies about it taking so long, Photobucket is very slow tonight. 60% complete so far.

He was actually quite nice about it - no shouting or swearing, maybe just a bit camp. The newsreader handled it well, too.

Pretty funny! Loved the huffing and puffing before he walked out!

Click on the high quality link at the bottom (when it eventually appears) to prevent it from being squashed. Wink

Hmm not 100% that was very professional of him. Surely if he was unsure if he was or wasn't on air the best thing for him to do would have been to say that and then carry on with the forecast?

All very funny though.

It has always surprised me at the need to have two forecasts straight after the national news at weekends. There is more than one weather tv studio so it is more than possible that both forecasts were live.

I take it that the weather studios are only able to see their own output, and not that of the channel they are feeding into. You would have thought there would have been a monitor with a switch to the differing channels they feed into.

No, the weather studios can see the channel's output but it may be that it was seeing the BBC One output., hence Tomasz's confusion - on a few occasions there's been a breakdown of comms to the gallery. Nick Miller I can always remember cos the gallery would just phone his weather studio and say go for two minutes when you see yourself on screen and he'd just do it, exactly two minutes give or take a couple of seconds. Awesome.

Presumably if the bulletin is both on the News Channel and BBC One, but the two weather studios are providing weather forecasts separately for the two channels, it would be very easy to be monitoring the wrong network, and because you saw the bulletin, you'd think you'd got the right one.

AIUI the forecaster selects both the network they are monitoring and their talkback feed (which may not always the same thing - as you could be taking talkback from a studio not a channel for some shows, but need to monitor the channel?) - and if you go into the studio after the bulletin has started it could be very easy to select the wrong studio... That said - a talkback check should confirm that - though during a BBC One bulletin the News Channel may not be top priority?
