Total mess.

It's not nearly as bad as you make out. There are some teeting problems but the studio is far superior to the old N24 one which had very limited "big screen" capabilities.

Just because a studio has big gimmiky "big screens" does not make it superior. I personally feel it makes it inferior.

I've always argued that it's better for broadcasters to use actual screens (whether they be Barco back-projection, or LED like Sky News) rather than VR such as ITV News.

Sky, AJE etc don't have problems with their screens. I suppose the size of N6 and the proximity of the screens to people presenting makes any errors show up alot more. It's a shame, because I prefer the idea of people actually being able to see the screen they are talking to in 'down-the-line' reports.

I don't disagree with you, I think you were missing my point. I think it is even softer to have (like ITV) a massive green sheet in which presenters pretend they can see what is behind. My argument was that a "real" set like the previous is superior to the "faker" set of N6.

But the problem with N8 (as was) was that the projectors were so far away from the screens that the image was always 'washed-out'. The technology has moved on and they can do better. Mal-functioning screens aside (which can only be fixed when they are off-air) are one thing, but having visible 'gashes' etc after 3 weeks is another.

Do you know why they N6 changed from a "real" set to a "fake" set?

N6 is and always has been a real set. There's no virtual reality stuff like ITV News. The 1999-2003 backdrop was the real News Centre, 2003-2006 used fake newsrooms and 2006-2008 was a skyline. Regardless of the backdrop, N6 is not 'fake'.

I hope you're not talking to me. I was using those quote marks for a reason. Smile

Out of interest, what programme was the Gordon Brown interview on? I saw some clips on the News Channel this morning of him against a white backdrop with the new globe logo.

I have to say it looked very nice and fresh - and it got me thinking that it would work quite well for the side screens of the News Channel set, rather than the fairly messy virtual newsroom shots at the moment.

They were in the Daily Politics studio at Millbank for that interview.

Ah, thanks for that.

It really was a rather nice shot - I just think the side angle the News Channel uses at the moment is too dark and cluttered.

Yes, I was talking to you. Sarcasm doesn't work in written communication. I thought you were asking a genuine question Wink

Laughing Suppose not, I could have made it a lot clearer!
