Maxine! It's called BBC World News! NOT BBC WORLD!

Also it's BBC News or BBC News Channel - not the BBC's News Channel...very sloppy! Good to see Peter Dobbie though - he is a true professional.

What a shame that both of Maxine's examples are so much better than the proper names now. They really shouldn't have renamed the channels.

Good to see Peter Dobbie again, last time I saw him was whilst watching the then BBC World in France at Christmas.

I love how with News 24, everyone said what they were supposed too - now there's about 60 different versions, only of which two are acceptable. BBC News channel on BBC One, and BBC News on the channel itself.

Dateline London moved to Sundays a while back. Before News 24 became the News Channel.

Not wanting to start the whole opting out thing again, but why does she have to say bye then carry on talking? Can't they go straight to the weather? It'd make a lot more sense.

It would make more sense to go to the weather. In the same way as after some bulletins, both BBC News and BBC One go to a weather bulletin straight afterwards. Why can't the same bulletin go out to both? Tonight's would have certainly worked as Peter has pre-warned people that he would Jane was coming up with a bulletin for BBC One viewers and that he would return on the half hour.

Did anyone notice that they used the "night time" newsroom backdrop in N6 all morning- including for Breakfast! Maybe something to do with the problems? I hope it's not an actual decision to use it in the day becuase it looked far too dark at lunchtime! Wink

Could it have been for continuity. Doesn't Your Money get recorded in the morning then re-played throughout the day at various points yesterday it was directly before the late evening news.

Was there any particular reason for both BBC Parliament and BBC News showing the same straight talk with Andrew Neil at half 11 last night?

Usually don't they have their paper review at 11:45?

Isn't Straight Talk with Andrew Neil normally at 1030 on BBC News. I presume it was moved because of the BBC One bulletin - which would suggest BBC News does not have the ability to broadcast a bulletin for BBC One while BBC News plays outs a recorded program. It seems a shame if this is the case, as it would have allowed for a more consistent schedule on the news channel.

I wonder whether the problem is that they can't do different things on BBC One and the NC and keep the ticker going?

I believe N8 had a second mixer downstream of the studio mixer so that a different source could be taken straight to air, which I think was used when News 24 used to provide UK Today into Breakfast - TC7 was put to air on the second mixer and the main desk output was taken as an outside source in TC7.

I think that might be due to the fact that if there was a break down or some fault on the BBC News Channel, they would have to join the BBC News bulletin without the capability to air an apology.

Not sure if they can use two different Viz engines to key over the two different outputs - so that BBC One get lower thirds and BBC News Channel also get a ticker.

ISTR that they can do this overnight - but that may be because the BBC World pre-Viz studio output could be routed through the News Channel studio and a slaved Viz there key over News Channel graphics.

Not quite...

News 24 latterly had an FX Suite (second vision mixer) and lots of network switching to allow this to be upstream or downstream, and to allow for network switching.

In the UK Today era there was none of this - and effectively just a single vision mixer in that gallery.

To allow UK Today to be a source into Breakfast, at 0600ish the Breakfast studio (sound and vision) was routed directly to the network output of News 24, replacing the vision mixer output (as Breakfast had its own clock this made life easier - and I think the BBC NEWS 24 dog was added downstream of the network destination so remained?). Once this had been done and checked, the News 24 vision mixer could be set-up for the UK Today opt.

ISTR it got fun around 0800 as you had to do the 0757 regional opt but also re-route News 24's Network feed from the Breakfast studio output to the Signing Studio output AND check that they had picked up Breakfast as their source - so that News 24 got signing.
