Looked like Tim Willcox was engrosed in that Television Centre promo for Friday's BBC Four show. When the sting played straight after the promo he looked like he was welling up.

One other thing that the insiders or people in the know may be able to answer. How does the broadcast centre switch over from the TV Centre feed at 12:59 and NBH at 1pm? Is it the flick of a switch - or something more detailed as it were.

Also, it's a shame that this week's Click didn't come from TVC for one last time.

At a guess might the swith be done during Breakfast, with NBH outputting N6 up until the point they go properly live?

Or it could have been done already...I remember reading when BBC North West moved to Media City that the feed was switched after the late Friday bulletin, with the weekend ones output via Media City although still coming from Oxford Road.

As far as I know the Broadcast Centre (Red Bee) doesn't have any involvement in the News Channel. As for changing tomorrow I'd have thought that it would be a case of selecting a different source on the BNCS router. I assume it's something that's done quite often anyway - overnight or when World is on the News Channel at the same time as the national news is on BBC1 for example.

When World changed, didn't they change mid way during a trail to the NBH feed?

World is different, playout is handled by Red Bee, there wouldn't have been any need to 'switch' anything when they changed studios. It would have just been a case of taking one outside source to air for the news, then play an ad break, then take another source. Quite a standard thing to do.

That's a first (or at least in a LONG time).

Tim throwing to an interview and instead of saying 'Our Central London studio' referred to it as 'From New Broadcasting House'.

Oh no, there's people walking down the spiral staircase. Wink

the News Channel doesn't pass through the Broadcast Centre - it goes direct to Coding & Multiplexing. Apparently they're going to switch inputs to the coders at some point during the countdown. You may see a slight switching glitch on air: both studios will be playing the same content, but it probably won't be exactly synchronous. Think something along the lines of the glitch you used to see when they switched studios at 2130 and 2159.

For BBC One, it'll just be case of the playout suite picking up a different OS line from usual.

Thanks for that insight. Why doesn't the News channel pass through the Broadcast Centre? (Sorry if this is a stupid question).

There was never really any need. News 24 was always self-contained, and was just run directly from a gallery in TVC, and got by with playing all its presentation elements itself. World was always a bit more complicated with its regional variations and ad breaks, which is why it needed its own playout suite.

OK. Smile That's always something I wondered about.

Going back to the Ticker - I wonder if the new style will suffer from the problem the other one did and start to get the Hippy shakes. What used to cause that, just the system needing rebooting?

Starting to all get a little too self-indulgent on air for my liking, to be honest.

It's only for 24 hours!

And on that note... It's 24 hours to go.

And only a few minutes at the end of each hour.

It will go on for longer, at least first few days of NBH while all the presenters have their first broadcast there. I mean stuff like "this is our new home" and other types of on air mentions. Nothing wrong with it really, World made huge hype abt it all.
