It would sound a bit crap - especially since 99% of people know that there is no noise in there, and would probably notice the difference between the days.

I've emailed one of the senior people at BBC News to comment on the lack of atmosphere in N6, and suggested they add a bit of newsroom sound.
Here's the reply I got...
I've replied saying I don't see why this would be any more false than the background. What does everyone here think?

The atmosphere is a bit less lively than with a real newsroom. However I think it would be false and misleading to add background noise. Instead I have asked the presenters to inject extra energy into their presentation to compensate for the lack of atmosphere.

Both. Normally the 60second is used. But the 90sec is used before the 10 to give a longer run in on N24 if needed. ISTR.
I think the one they use during the day is actually 55 seconds, but yes there's a 60 sec one for the 10.

Just wondering, is the full countdown still 60 seconds or is it 90 seconds again? If so does anyone have the full countdown in video? Thanks.

Maryam Moshiri has been at it again jumping in and making the presenters look stupid. Tonight she's showing off how good her eye sight is by reading the autocue from the other side of the studio.

Ah, thanks. Glad they're using 90 second countdown again.

You are looking at it just as the News Channel/News 24 moving studios, you are ignoring the fact that the News Channel now uses the same studio that used to just do BBC One bulletins - and the screens were on permanenty for that.
Rather than have four studios running - they now have just three... (BBC World, BBC News Channel and the one that does Breakfast/Working Lunch/Newsround/Six/Newsnight)
By getting rid of the separate News Channel studio they've reduced costs - and improved the on-screen quality of the News Channel. People may not like the new "atmosphere" - but it is difficult to argue that the lighting, camerawork and quality of output has massively improved. The previous News 24 studio had very poor lighting, incredibly washed out screens, and often quite dodgy camerawork...
the lighting looked ok to me as did the live backdrop, although I do agree with the projected screens it did look bad, as to the quality of output well I don't think thats improved, it now looks too clean and clinical and it dosen't help that the backdrop is fake and dark.

And theres another thing how does running screens 24/7 work out cheaper than a glass wall in N8

I find the fake backdrop thing somewhat specious. Saw CNN while over in France and they manage to have a successful 24 hour news channel with a fake backdrop.
And it was nice to see Adrian Finnegan again...
I think if the set were less spartan and had a bit more depth to it, a bit more going on, it would work a lot better. Essentially now it is just a box with a desk in it, which doesn't lend itself well to a rolling news channel, in my opinion. If you look at the CNNi set it has a lot more elements at different distances behind the presenter, which gives a feeling of more depth. It feels like the BBC News set was designed for the Nationals - which it was, of course. But it needs some more interest, something more than just a flat projected background.

what the hell is that look!?
good thing that Moshiri don't do that on BBC World (News).

noggin said that there's only 3 studios functioning...
did he forgot the studio where do they do World News Today and World Business Report? (What is the name of that studio?)
So it's N6, TC7, N9 and whatever the name of that studio...
And yeah... I really think that BBC World (News) is better presenting on the less-lively N6

AIUI that's still N9, just the second set. They just turn the cameras around 180 degrees when it's to be used.
