Has anyone else noticed that gashed screen in N6 between the two presenters at all? Does anyone know if this is going to be rectified?

Only about 27 other people in this thread. Wink

I'm guessing it may only be rectified once it's deemed serious/annoying/worthwhile enough to fix.

The previous News 24 studio had very poor lighting, incredibly washed out screens, and often quite dodgy camerawork...

But compared to the N6 box, was bright, open and had a busy atmosphere aided by the look and sound of the (real) newsroom in the background.

The question is that which was/is more worthy to the viewers, the technical supremacy of the current version (as the News Channel) or the aesthetic value of the previous News 24 set.

And theres another thing how does running screens 24/7 work out cheaper than a glass wall in N8 Confused

You are looking at it just as the News Channel/News 24 moving studios, you are ignoring the fact that the News Channel now uses the same studio that used to just do BBC One bulletins - and the screens were on permanenty for that.

Rather than have four studios running - they now have just three... (BBC World, BBC News Channel and the one that does Breakfast/Working Lunch/Newsround/Six/Newsnight)

By getting rid of the separate News Channel studio they've reduced costs - and improved the on-screen quality of the News Channel. People may not like the new "atmosphere" - but it is difficult to argue that the lighting, camerawork and quality of output has massively improved. The previous News 24 studio had very poor lighting, incredibly washed out screens, and often quite dodgy camerawork...

I thought the N8 lighting was fine. i know what your saying about the extra studio but I think the nationals should have moved to N8 joining the news channel.

I'm not an expert on cameras etc, but as an ordinary punter just watching, I'd say the camerawork has been noticeably awful since they moved to N6.

There've been loads of wobbly shots, and the most recurring problem is at the top of the hour - they cut between a side shot of the desk to a front shot, both of which zoom in, however they should already be zooming at the start of the shot, not start zooming halfway through the shot. It appears very 'jerky' instead of smooth.

The only camera problems I ever noticed were when presenters weren't correctly framed, and you'd notice them smoothly nudge the camera up/down or right/left to centre them. I get the impression if this happened in N6 you'd get a dodgy jerky movement until they were centred!

I have to agree - I'm not an expert on camera shots or lighting grids or whatever, but since the "News Channel" has moved into N6, the whole ouput looks extremely shoddy. As you say, wobbly shots, jerky zooms and that wide shot when you can clearly see a business presenter or studio guest removing his/her microphone as they throw to the other side of the studio.

It all looks very unprofessional IMO.

A MINOR irritant, that I've been intending to raise here before...

Would it be too difficult to shrink or move the Weather Graphics up a bit to enable the bottom BBC NEWS strapline to continue to be shown on screen during the forecasts?

Afraid I can't agree.

The lighting in News 24 was awful (soft, flat and quite cold) - and the washed out projection screens (as they were projecting in daylight) were dreadful.

The One in the News 24 studio was bad enough - but the Six and Ten coming from there would have been dreadful. The Ten looked awful when it was up there once or twice. The guest close ups always had a cut off bit of screen behind their heads, and their "big screen" was anything but.

Sport, Weather and Reporter Big Screens look so much better in the News Channel studio - as do the strand programmes.

The same remote camera control systems are in use in both studios. However some bulletins have a manned camera in the News Channel Studio - as it needs to reposition quickly - and thus tracking is possible in the News Channel studio, which wasn't an option in News 24's (apart from the noisy, soft and horrid, aerial tracking camera)

I think most people are assuming that some (or possibly many) changes would have been made in N8 to solve such problems if the nationals went there permanently but keeping the newsroom backdrop.
