Wasn't it said on here that that wasn't the case anymore?

Was it? I was under the impression last time they turned them off they had so much trouble getting them all back on again correctly they decided to just leave them on all the time.

I know, but I'm sure I heard somebody later say that was no longer what happened. Still, perhaps I imagined it.

I think the news channel should have stayed put in N8 were it belongs in the newsroom and moved world to N6 as they dont really need the newsroom atmosphere that is/was part of the news channels branding.I dont see why they decided to move the news channel away from the newsroom in the first place. Why don't they need the newsroom atmosphere?

Because World is more like a bulletin, the world equivalent of the BBC News at one, six and ten, whilst News 24(channel) is a rolling 24hr news channel and therefore should have the atmosphere of a live 24hr newsroom, and not some virtual backdrop totally not suited to a 24hr rolling news channel, this set would have been perfect for World!

I have to agree with Harshy. Although BBC WORLD (NEWS) isn't like having the one, six and ten, it's less of a rolling-news channel than BBC NEWS 24 (no appologies) is because there are a lot more pre-recorded programmes.

I've emailed one of the senior people at BBC News to comment on the lack of atmosphere in N6, and suggested they add a bit of newsroom sound.

Here's the reply I got...

Quote:
The atmosphere is a bit less lively than with a real newsroom. However I think it would be false and misleading to add background noise. Instead I have asked the presenters to inject extra energy into their presentation to compensate for the lack of atmosphere.

I've replied saying I don't see why this would be any more false than the background. What does everyone here think?

eye my resons have been said in the above posts. Wink

Well what a response from the bbc eh Laughing

I quite like the new graphics/music/titles but the set is a big let down I think one N8 has been fiddled with they should reconsider who is going were the nationals could go in N8 quite easily Exclamation

I just cant understand why its been moved/how its economical for the BBC to move the news channel into there. Your right the current N6 will be great for world. They should take the option why N8 is done to put bbc news channel back in there aswell as have the overnights.

I thought that too, but gave him the benefit of the doubt that he may not have meant it that way.

It would be false to have newsroom sound Rolling Eyes what bull sh** the backround is more false than katie price.
Were are all of the people in the newsroom then hiding under there desks with static computer screens. I remember a complaint from a viewer to newswatch during the 2003-2006 nationals set complaining how it is so bad for the enviroment having all of those computers and screens on when nobodys home. Laughing Wont be long before the same complaints come through about this one. And theres another thing how does running screens 24/7 work out cheaper than a glass wall in N8 Confused

Goodness me looknorth, you are quite the economist. I doubt they even worked out the cheapest option beofre they moved.

You are looking at it just as the News Channel/News 24 moving studios, you are ignoring the fact that the News Channel now uses the same studio that used to just do BBC One bulletins - and the screens were on permanenty for that.

Rather than have four studios running - they now have just three... (BBC World, BBC News Channel and the one that does Breakfast/Working Lunch/Newsround/Six/Newsnight)

By getting rid of the separate News Channel studio they've reduced costs - and improved the on-screen quality of the News Channel. People may not like the new "atmosphere" - but it is difficult to argue that the lighting, camerawork and quality of output has massively improved. The previous News 24 studio had very poor lighting, incredibly washed out screens, and often quite dodgy camerawork...
