Always a hot potato though the BBC spending money on anything - as far as the Daily Mail would be concerned they're closing an already oversized way to modern newsroom and moving to something bigger.

I also don't think it's a revamp particularly worth promoting - apart from the set there is little significant change elsewhere. BBC News doesn't really need to self advertise in the way BBC World might, so I think other than a mention on the last bulletins from TV Centre and the first from Broadcasting House they won't make too big a deal or it, although it would be a good time to launch an ad campaign around BBC News, but it needs to be about the service, not the studios.

To put it in perspective, how long before the move-in date did WN air promos on NBH? I only found out of the official move the Thursday or Friday before the move itself.

But as I said, March has roughly 2 fortnights left to see whether N24 moves into NBH. It's like an eternity but March is long.

They aired them 2 weeks before the move, maybe even longer than that.

Probably it's because BBC's domestic services no longer need promotion because it is known that majority of them are at NBH. Did NN, Andrew Marr or SPolitics air promos about their move to NBH?

A short promotion showing the new premesis and building would be nice on the lead up to the move, or the morning it happens - much like Nik Gowing did with Lucy Hockings on BBC World News.

I don't recall Sky News making a huge song and dance about their move, or any on screen promotion when they were about to TX from Osterley. I remember Allan King signing off from their old studios - and they mentioned it on air during the final 2 days in their old home that 'things were changing'.

The BBC (especially News) don't like doing in your face promotion - unless it's for Strictly, the Voice or shows like that.

All the above shows did get heavy promotion on their last programmes that they were moving. Remember Newsnight with the Barco's being switched off etc. When Marr and Sunday Politics moved, it was mentioned throughout the shows where they were now coming from.

I can't see the News channel just doing the final bulletin from TVC and then all of a sudden appear at NBH the next day, without even a mention on air - that would be plain silly. Having said that, they didn't even allude to the channel being 10 years old on its anniversary, so who knows.

Did they even mention their being 15 years old? But then again, either it is because they changed from N24 to NC or they were too busy reporting on NN's mess.

Old and New graphics together as you can see its using a slightly different grid and on old 4:3 tvs, the new graphics will be closer to the 4:3 edge then the old ones, but you gain more screen space, interestingly theres less animation on the new breaking news graphic then the old one Sad

I'm still not sure about the world graphics, there's something not quite right about them. I think it's the light grey/dark grey lacks the simple elegance of the current lower thirds and the font spacing/weighting seems strange. The font change from Gill is a mistake but hopefully using a more versatile font will herald an end to the mis-mash of random red boxes and different sized text used on the report graphics. If you've seen NewsWatch since the NBH move, their full screen graphics are beautiful, the right sizes and weights and spacing - hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Other than more visible screen space, the new lower thirds is a major disappointment I am sure the internals at the Beeb who see the same thing but in HD it looks good, but for me the graphics are too simple, using Helvetica is a mistake the bbc world news logo still has the wrong kerning so news channel has to be affected, no wonder they not are making a song and dance about it, so expect to be disappointed.

I like the new ones myself, the old ones always looked cheap and poor!

Personally I'm delighted they are using Helvetica. Gill Sans is a great font but not for on screen graphics. I've seen better mocks done in MS Paint than the current astons! What I've seen so far on BBC WN is clean and sleek. I have the utmost respect for Harshy but definitely with Mike W on this one Wink

Exactly how I'd put it, I think the current layout could be quite nice if they did more than just solid white though, don't get me wrong there! The Gill Sans wasn't a great choice for text though, my mum complains she can't read it half the time!

The "new BBC News Channel top-of-the-hour titles/camera sequence" is described as 'round' by @MaxPreston. Interesting!
