It's more significant than you might think. It's pretty easy to spot HD vs SD originated content on SD outlets. HD stuff looks cleaner, and has far less obvious 'edge enhancement' (aka detail).
Newsnight and BBC World News look noticably better in picture quality terms, even on SD channels, than they did when they were in W12.
Completely agree. HD content is easy to spot on SD channels. I still have a CRT contraption as the main tv and when watching programmes like Africa on BBC One SD it's still very apparent at the increased level of detail the camera is picking up.
