That depends, is Salford HD ready?
Can we expect the smallest of differences in picture quality on the News Channel from the channel using HD cameras? Very slight, I suspect.
Also worth noting that we'll get to see the Sports Centre and sports clips in HD on the weekends news too, which will be good.

Yes, of course. Its fully HD there.

You may not but plenty of others do - it does tie in with the NBH move after all so it's perfectly relevant.
I don't really care about all this HD malarkey. More important is the fact we have a date for the NC moving to NBH and the end of news from BBC TVC.

It's more significant than you might think. It's pretty easy to spot HD vs SD originated content on SD outlets. HD stuff looks cleaner, and has far less obvious 'edge enhancement' (aka detail).
Newsnight and BBC World News look noticably better in picture quality terms, even on SD channels, than they did when they were in W12.

AIUI it's already HD - and being downconverted for the News Channel.
Isn't the second BBC Sport News studio already used in HD for BBC One / Two HD stuff ISTR when they aren't in the MOTD studio (which isn't permanently booked to BBC Sport anymore as it was in London)

The BBC building all its studios in HD at i presume huge expense, but clearly have limited means to broadcast any of it to the licence fee paying public in HD, and with only BBC One HD and BBC HD theres very limited scope the end viewer gets to see much of the NBH operation in HD, theres shows from BBC World News but it goes out on SD channels like BBC Four, its disappointing really

It may well be huge expense, but it won't be any extra huge expense because it's HD. It's now almost impossible to buy broadcast equipment that's SD, HD is the 'default' standard for all kit (and so it should be !)

I think it would have been short sighted to make the studios SD, and it would have cost
more in the long run to convert them to HD later. The very fact that BBC One News, Newsnight, and shows like Andrew Marr are all going or have gone HD means the investment would have been required anyway.
