It was good but as I said in the Election thread there was a lot of FACTUAL information available from the London Counts available on the London Elects website that they could have used. The result of the First preference votes was available there for all constituencies around 20 minutes before the declaration at 2339. Indeed the first was available at 2206.
If anyone doubts this look at their RSS feed timestamps.

Jon Sopel is providing a hilarious commentary on the roof of City Hall tonight where the London Mayoral results are about to be announced with the various hick ups, 'service announcements' from the City Hall staff to the media being mistaken for the announcement of the results, and the number of lifts that have been devoted to the media in comparison to the number for other "...more important people" as Sopel put it.Great coverage from the channel tonight.

Was the content definitely published at that time though? Could it have been embargoed until the official announcement.
I thought N24's coverage was pretty watchable - especially to someone like me who didn't have that much interest in it.
Preferred Sky's split screen with a results board on the right hand side and someone typing the numbers in as they were announced - gave a much clearer view of who got what without having to remember the numbers!
Was unintentionally funny though when he read out "one million, forty three thousand..." for the person to write the number wrong (forgetting the 0) and quickly delete each number onscreen.

Well almost two weeks on I'll pass judgement on the rebrand.
On the whole I like it a lot. It's simple and gives me the impression of going back to the best bits of other eras, in particular the 1999 - 2003 era, with the remix of the music, the boxed logo, the plain and simple astons and also the Gill Sans font. The titles appear to me to be a modern look at the globe but they also go back to 1999-2003 somewhat with the swirls and the local place names with the regional news.
The set is alright but I much preferred the real newsroom as opposed to the fake backdrop. It also looks like a studio now and not in the heart of the newsroom (probably because it is!) which to me looks a little poor as that's what helped to give N24 the edge as it provided a sense of immediacy. What has been done to N6 is good and works, but not quite as much as N8.
As for the rename to the BBC News Channel - bah! A stupid idea to lose the strong brand name for something so weak and flimsy as 'the News Channel'. A bad idea and here's hoping that it may change back soon.

That looks surprisingly cramped. I never realised all the cameras were on top of each other. That desk also looks quite small. The whole set really did look so much bigger on screen.

"Here on the News Channel"
"Here on News 24"
I know it's been complained about to death on here...but in BBC branding terms, what difference is there between the two phrases above? Nothing.
If they wanted to stop people from dropping the "BBC" part, they have well and truly failed in that. If they want to succeed in their aim, they would have to ban the words "News Channel" from being uttered by anyone on the channel in question...

It does seem to have backfired on them if they wanted BBC to be mentioned each and every time. It probably got mentioned more with its old name.
I think I hear "on the news channel" more than anything else which could be said on any of the news channels available. At least with News 24 it was a unique brand that could only be said on BBC News 24.
Looking back at the images the old studio does seem far more fresh and open then the new one.
I have now got used to the new graphics but I just can't stand the background. There is no depth to it. It looks like they are sat up tight against the backdrop. I could forgive them if they made use of it but they don't.
The wide shots of the whole studio make sit looks empty with a lot of wasted space.

The cameras weren't all on top of each other - they have been moved to be together. BTW it looks nothing like that now - all been ripped out!
