I've noticed this morning that there have been no countdowns used on the News Channel, just the 'filler version with no clock'. 10am roughly 25 secs and 11am around 20secs. Gallery not working properly or something else?

At 9am they played one of the Olympic countdowns from the summer! Very odd!

Don't the countdowns get played out by Red Bee Media, not the gallery itself... They just branch into them?

Ironically, if anything - the light flare becomes more prominent in the tweaked W1 titles. They're going to be a lot 'brighter' so I wouldn't think too much of this minor change on the app.

I thought the new 'tweaked' titles were going to include a live sweeping shot from the tracking cam above the newsroom . . .

Is that still the plan? I suppose it could still fit in quite nicely after the current title sequence if they run the music on a little longer before cutting to the studio.

I always thought that the titles would just fade into a sweeping shot of the newsroom, and then fade into the studio. I never imagined the title sequence itself actually being the sweeping shot of the newsroom.

How does gregmc's comment preclude that?

It didn't, and I didn't suggest it did.

Not on The News Channel.

The News Channel (and News 24 before it) doesn't go through a Red Bee playout area, and the countdowns are played locally in the News Channel gallery. (There is a separate 'channel' in the Columbus playout system ISTR that just sits there triggering countdowns on the hour, every hour, and routed them to a mixer assign line. It used to have to be reloaded once every 24 hours - unless someone forgot to...)

Could be the Columbus schedule was playing up, or the channel had gone over or under and thus the countdown wasn't playing?

(Unlike all of the other BBC channels - apart possibly from BBC Parliament - the BBC News Channel doesn't have much to do with Red Bee. There is no presentation suite downstream of the News Channel gallery in the BBC News Channel TX chain - unlike BBC World News - and no live feeds from Red Bee back to the News Channel gallery. The only real link is that Red Bee supply trails to the channel - at one point these came on a weekly tape - though I suspect they are file based now?)

A bit of afternoon entertainment with some toddlers on the News channel with Jon and Emily...

Can't help but think it would have been better for one of the pair to have interviewed the toddlers and their carers by the far Bacro wall on the stools... but hey!

I don't know if it was me, but I did notice a hint of Jon and Emily not being too comfortable together today. Jon seemed very 'off' and just now before the 5pm TOTH the pair just weren't communicating well.

Plus a slighly different camera angle for the Business at the Barco wall today (nothing greatly different but looked quite nice!).

Two presentation points indicated, one presenter/rota/cretin speculation over emotions and feelings of presenters left normal.

Something was up timing wise this morning - I recall in the run up to (I think) the 10am headlines Martine fluffed her lines and said something along the lines of 'I'm trying to rush, can you tell', and then straight after the final report Simon literally threw to the weather with only the word 'Carol'. They both then read the subsequent headlines very fast after the 'filler countdown'. Not sure what the cause was.

Yep, Parliament plays out entirely from Millbank. As well as the trails, Red Bee also handles the EPG for both channels.

...until someone accidentally switches off the playout PC / the sound desk blows up / there's another power cut, then someone in TVC has to overplug the distribution chain and reserve content is played out from a video server PC lurking in N9.

That's obviously been upgraded - when Millbank had a power cut in October 2010 the backup was a DVD, played from a Tevion DVD player, restarted manually on air when the programme ran out. This was at the time when BH was shut for systems testing, so one of the language services that usually originated in the Egton (Peel) Wing was camping in N9 so that back up might not have been available at that point.

Incidentally, don't RedBee do the in-vision sign language on the NC's simulcasts of certain network bulletins?
