Not sure the best place to post this, but I noticed in the last few days following a software update, the splash-screen on the BBC News iPhone app has changed from the design on the left to the new one on the right...

I wonder if this might be a taste of things to come in terms of new titles when everything moves to NBH. Personally I think the new version looks a bit bland and drab without the orange and without detailing such as the criss-cross effect within the continents.

Ironically, if anything - the light flare becomes more prominent in the tweaked W1 titles. They're going to be a lot 'brighter' so I wouldn't think too much of this minor change on the app.

Fair enough. I shall remain open-minded. Wink

Patrick Moore has died.

It was Breaking News at 12.55pm, there is a full 5 minute tribute package on the news channel at the top of the hour.
Looks like Patrick Moore was on the list of famous people expected to die soon so we have ready prepared obit package.

Looking at the statement from the family people close to him would have known that he was in the last few days of his life, so there would have been time to dust off anything that might have been 'on the shelf' so to speak.

Have to say though, the announcement was very soon after he passed away...

That graphic used on the app splash screen is the same as has been used on the current website since it launched, both on the breaking news graphics and in the header.

Any idea when the fake Christmas tree will be making its annual appearance on the News channel this year?

From today!

I've noticed this morning that there have been no countdowns used on the News Channel, just the 'filler version with no clock'. 10am roughly 25 secs and 11am around 20secs. Gallery not working properly or something else?

At 9am they played one of the Olympic countdowns from the summer! Very odd!

I thought the new 'tweaked' titles were going to include a live sweeping shot from the tracking cam above the newsroom . . .

Is that still the plan? I suppose it could still fit in quite nicely after the current title sequence if they run the music on a little longer before cutting to the studio.

How does gregmc's comment preclude that?
