Any idea when the fake Christmas tree will be making its annual appearance on the News channel this year?
Probably 15th December, it seems to have appeared in recent years on the same weekend as BBC One and Two's Christmas Idents.

I thought it was on screen a little earlier than that last year?

So were the Christmas idents. If they continue their current trend, they should begin this Saturday. Hopefully sense will prevail and the following Saturday will be the launch.
That said, I'm sure the News Channel's tree backdrop started on a Monday in previous years.

I just quickly checked back in the thread. The 2010 tree returned on Saturday 11th December and 2011 tree on Monday 12th December.
Perhaps Monday 10th December for this year's tree then?

I'm afraid I can't get excited about the News Channel's virtual tree - it was far better at the start of the last decade when they'd have a proper tree behind the set.
I agree. I find virtual trees really lame. Hopefully they'll keep a real one on Breakfast, but I have a feeling they may stick a virtual one in between the two presenters on the backdrop.

They'll probably do the same as North West Tonight, which is have a tree inbetween the screens which separate the sofa and the place for the business (or weather in the case of NWT). I doubt they'll go down the virtual route. It would look ridiculous.

But they did have the added benefit of the real newsroom behind the presenters in N8 in which it could be placed.
I wouldn't have thought they'd be able to put a real tree in N6 as it would obscure the Barcos behind the presenters (even though they rarely put anything on the screens behind the presenters apart from the fake newsroom!).
IIRC, when the News channel decamped to N9 a couple of Christmas's ago (when the Barco screens were upgraded) they used the real/artificial Breakfast tree in that studio.
I'm sure when they move to NBH, they will have a real/artificial tree in the newsroom behind studio E.
