About the move to Broadcasting House, I think it would be best if they moved the news Channel to celebrate its fifteenth 'birthday' in November. Does anyone agree?

I think it would be best if they moved when the facilities and infrastructure are ready.

Aren't they ready yet, if not why have they already set up the Studio?

Rehearsing, testing, practicing with new systems, working out how they want to use the studio, and so on. The set in the studio is a pretty minor part in the whole set up, so it could even be so that they've got somewhere to take their press photos, or so that when people start using the newsroom proper, there isn't a load of set builders wandering around and dragging sawdust through the new carpet.

World are moving in before the News Channel and will be there to iron out the problems that will be found with the new studios, newsroom and technology. The News Channel won't move until they're happy they're not going to fall off air at the first sign of breaking news. (I would presume that if World falls over during the transition period, NC would cover for them - anyone in the know?)

Will overnights come from Broadcasting House then?

The News Channel have started using a different countdown that is counting down to the Olympics - looks nice. Will try and get a video of it on the next hour but here is a cap for now:

^ the last time they tried that, the countdown music ended up horribly out of sync and it didn't last a morning.

The regular countdown was just used there, I note...

Yes - annoying as I was trying to record it! Ah well.

When it was on, the music seemed fine but fading into the BBC News sting didn't seem to fit very seamlessly.

Watched the 5 TOTH countdown and is the normal one

Have they actually used this countdown at all since the first showing on Monday? Every TOTH I've seen since then they've used the regular countdown. Maybe they'll start using it more next week.

Not that I've seen - odd that it appeared out of nowhere isn't it!

Some special Olympic images inserted into the regular countdown at 10am.

I'd rather see that than a separate countdown.

Here's a quick look at the new countdown first (0:03 to 0:14) - will try and get a longer video later on.

Very nice Smile the countdown that is, well all bar only seeing 10secs. I suppose we have to wait until 10 to see the full 60 sec version.

Some information for you, as I've been working in New Broadcasting House recently.

The 'moving in' timetable is as follows:

September 2012
HARDtalk
Newsnight

October 2012
BBC World News

February 2013
BBC News at One, Six & Ten
BBC News channel
Summaries
BBC Weather

The studios for Newsnight (Studio B) and BBC World News ( Studio C) are all set up and ready, though BBC World News will be using Studio B from 12pm to 6.30pm weekdays apparently. These studios are just going through some final testing.

Lots of new gizmos and gadgets are being set up that's why it may be taking some time, including 'Smartglass' in Studio C which can be turned from transparent to basically a TV Screen with the touch of a button. They will also be using iPads and the 'Viz Anchor' app to allow presenters to control graphics. In Studio B there are 3 large screens surrounding the desk which allows the presenter to move from one to another for 'flow' when presenting a story, i.e. showing graphics on the first screen then walking over to a live two-way interview on the second and something else on the third.

Studio E is in the main newsroom, this is where the News Channel and News at 1, 6 and 10 will come from. This has the newsroom as a direct backdrop just through some glass, not clear whether they will add some graphics onto that or add some blur to the glass as yet, like the World News Studio is in TVC at the moment. This studio is still being rigged up with lighting, though the desk is in, it's under cover at the moment, so not sure if it is wired up with all the necessary computers etc... but I doubt it if the lighting is not up yet.

I've got some pictures of each of the studios + some floor plans which I will try and post up soon.... Very Happy
