An interview with the Home Secretary from the Westminster studio this afternoon. Other than for special programmes (or temporary studio subs), I don't recall seeing a standard BBC News backdrop used in this studio before.

Did this interview go out on World at the same time?

Interesting to have a presenter at Millbank rather than doing it down the line - surprising as it isn't a big name presenter (code for "I don't recognise the presenter")

That's the BBC News Channel chief political correspondent, Norman Smith.

Very nice shots Smile

Just a shame the lighting - and screen directly behind her - makes everything seem a little too red.

I suspect it all happened rather last minute. The government has been caught off-guard with this story and the report on the Six said the Home Secretary 'did the rounds' of the various media outlets this afternoon. My suspicion is she was also visiting ITN and Sky which are housed in the same building at Millbank as the BBC, hence the chosen location.

Nice use of the overhead 'papers' camera today to show the new 5p and 10p coins. Maybe a stood up TOTH as a special birthday treat to me. Wink

Sad news about Bert Weedon today, the news channel using a clip of him from an old repeat of one of his performances (which was a repeat in itself) from Granada Plus, with thd original Granada Plus logo and DOG in the corner of the screen.

I don't know whether this will interest anyone, but as I was going through my hard drive looking for a video clip I made of the French elections titles in 2002, I came across a selection of other BBC News 24 videos from 2001. Since there are a lot of new members now who might not remember 2001, I thought it would be a good idea to upload some. I thought I had some videos of 'normal' News 24 opening sequences, but I mostly seem to have kept overnight videos and oddities, such as when BBC News 24 moved to N9 for a weekend.

'Normal' overnights:

Clarence Mitchell
Adrian Finighan
Heather McCarthy
Lucy Hockings - her accent's not as strong these days Smile
Martine Croxall
Mike Embley
Susan Osman

BBC News 24 from N9:
Maxine Mawhinney
Peter Coe

BBC News (simulcast) from N9:
Chris Lowe & Anna Jones
Philip Hayton

BBC Bomb, March 2001:
