The bank holiday late news ended the same way as the six last night; the presenter says 'good night' and then you get the BBc New bumper followed by another presenter following on.
Surely they could do this after the 10, and not go rapidly throught the papers and say that going to do it properly in 15 minutes' time.
Would look much slicker and seem more natural as the news at ten presenter wouldn't have to pretend that they are on their own until there is a widescreen shot.

I'm afraid it would be impossible.

Why? They managed it last night alright....

Excuse my ignorance, but is the News Channel now always single headed in the evenings at weekends? Apologies if this has been discussed before but I rarely see the News Channel at weekends.

Yeah. It was double headed a couple of years ago but only for the evening shift. Annita and Clive tend to take it week about but Clive seems to be used for national weekend news a lot at the moment and during the week as cover so we see more of Annita or another person on that shift.

Annita's appearances seem to be rarer and rarer on the weekend evening shift as well

She still makes more appearances than Clive does! Maybe she doesn't seem to be on much for different reasons, such as holiday, the fact that she only alternates weekend evenings and that she covers a few shifts during the week.

Thread creep.

This issue gets raised on here repeatedly by different people, and only one person seems to want to keep the stupid handover after the 10, when repeately it is shown that an ident/sting works better. They manage it perfectly well after the news at 1, five days a week, and on Weekend and Bank Holiday bulletins as you say. Why cant they do it after the 10? ...IDK Rolling Eyes

...it is most definitely not impossible.

How about throw to the weather, split networks after the weather?

Personally, I don't think that it would work on BBC One. They do it on the ITV bulletin and didn't like it but I may be in the minority. It would though stop the handover but I think putting the weather forecast into the main programme and swapping presenters like the one would be better. That's just me though.

Or just simply get the presenter who is presenting the News at Ten to finish the hour on the News channel - it is called the 'Ten O'Clock News Hour' for a reason!

Have you ever considered that, maybe, the channel controller likes it and wants it kept.
I guess, when any of you attain the title of Channel Controller BBC News Channel - then you can get rid of if.

Yes - other forum members also don't seem to realise that not only does whoever is in charge of bulletin-rolling news segues seem to like this method, but other people do as well.

I have to say at this point that I didn't think for a minute that anyone would think I was being serious by saying using another method would be impossible.

If you think about it, the reason it is used is a way of holding onto viewers on the News Channel and stopping them from switching over. It also gives a regular viewer an idea of whether the newspapers, or the reviewer, is interesting enough to keep watching. I also disagree with the notion that the hand-overs between any presenter who dares to speak to the Ten O'Clock News presenter is disjointed or messy. It gives the opportunity for the Ten O'Clock News presenter to comment on the headlines and offer their input and context to the stories in the papers; it signifies a change of pace and mood; it provides continuity for the Ten O'Clock News Hour; and, as I've already hinted at, it gives the viewer a preview of what's coming up - of the unique feature not included in the main bulletin.
