Put News 24 in N9 for the time being, with World coming from its second set until N8 is refurbished.

That would be funny to see. The two BBC World sets are opposite one another and use the same cameras!

Personally I think the bulletin times are awkward, but it made far more sense for Mishal to present the full half hour rather than have an awkward change after five minutes. Mishal appears to be the best at ensuring some cohesion for these weekend bulletins.

I still don't understand the need for a different presenter for them, why could the duty BBC News channel presenter do the bulletin. The other option would be for BBC One to just pull back five minutes on their schedule. Make a commitment and put the Weekend News at 6 and 10.

Ooooh! Full countdown @ 12:00 They even had to hold an advert because they didn't have enough footage to cover the gap

Was it 90" or 60"?

60", I don't think they have enough new audio, hence why there was the 15 second pause inbetween an advert and the countdown.

I saw this too - was strange as they used the 90 second audio into the ten twice through the week - even if it was played over the rotating weather globe its still better than silence.

I'm wondering if the 90" countdown only gets queued up for the 10? i.e. to allow a few extra secs prep time in the gallery? Funny how when the countdown faded in though there was only 52 secs left to go but the music had only just started. Unless this is because of the network id at the end of the countdown now.

I have a cap from weds night - ill try and upload it tonight!

Missed the first 2 or 3 seconds but you get the point. You can hear the music before the 60 second mark on the weather globe.

That won't work - you'll have to post a link.

They really need to sort their act out, the BBC News Channel is not an established brand like N24 and a previously sympathetic audience's patience will soon dwindle.

But the "BBC News Channel" isn't the brand - "BBC News" is - and that as a brand is far stronger in the wider world (i.e. not the small percentage that regularly watch continuous news channels) than News 24 ever was.

Possibly a better question to ask is whether directly associating the continuous news operation with the core "BBC News" brand is going to cheapen it and lower its value by association...

No, it has always come from N9.

Nope.

The joint overnight service did launch from the current BBC World studio, but that was only because BBC News 24 were still in it as it was the News 24 launch studio (N24 occupied the current BBC World studio between Nov 1997 and Nov 1998).

When News 24 moved to their second gallery and newsroom set in Nov 1998 (which they then occupied until this Monday) this was the main location of the joint overnight service, and remained the main location until this week.

The joint service only came from the BBC World gallery and newsroom when there was a reason not to use the News 24 facilities. (The first time the joint service decamped to BBC World was actually when BBC World were still in a traditional studio/gallery on the 6th floor...)

Oh no, not always, I just mean even before the rebrand it did.

I think weekend bulletins do need looking at in terms of presenter - I mean, Peter is only in for 2 hours on a Sunday, and for 45 minutes of this time he wasn't even seen. During the week, heavy news days and a rehearsed script and running order mean different presenters, but at weekends there is no reason why the duty presenter can't do the bulletin - helps with consistency.
