The lightboxes underneath the Barcos in N6 (at the front) have been turned off all day, I assume they are broken in some way.

It makes the set look much darker, looks far better with the lighting on!

I do agree about the wipes on the Information Aston seemingly being wrong, but I can't help but think that maybe they are mean't to do that and will form part of the new graphics package when the News channel moves to W1, as with the Live/Locator Bug in the style that sport uses.

Far more likely to be mistakes I think.

I did wonder what the difference in lighting was today.

I agree that it is more visually interesting and it's nice to see the sports news being presented from a proper studio set rather than merely stood up next to a wall.

However, I have to agree that the overall look is very fussy - it's not a clean, sharp look by any stretch of the imagination. It's hard to know where to look - the presenter is not very obvious with all the background clutter. I also agree that the studio is too dark and the desk is too reflective.

So, a mixed bag for me.

Yes I like it generally but I think it could be improved. I remember people always used to moan about frosted glass in N8 making the backdrop fuzzy, but it's important if the backdrop is busy like this BBC Sport's set is - you're looking at the screens rather than the presenter. I think they could do with some frosted glass in there.

The plasma camera shot either needs to be closer or the plasma needs to be bigger.

I also think it could be a lot brighter. There are a lot of dark greys and blacks. Some more white would make it brighter and also provide a small link with BBC News.

Any pics at all - as they're normally in view on the TOTH wide pan shots.

Also, have any of the NC presenters made reference to the new BBC Sport News studio?

Yes, I think you're right, chris. Frosted glass/perspex certainly does help to diffuse the background and aid visual clarity for the viewer. At the moment there's far too much in focus behind the presenter, which is terribly distracting. I think that's the biggest concern I have with it.

One question, how will the News channel presenter be able to look at the back of the Papers (Sports stories) as he/she used to do after the last Sports bully?

We'll soon see - I assume the whole thing will be done from Salford by the sports presenter.

First time I've seen this done.

Barcos at the back showing a view of the newspapers from the camera mounted above the desk. Why can't they just get the actual graphic of the newspaper front page à la Sky rather than the low-tech alternative?

Chris calling it a little automatic camera that takes a while to be cranked up and zoom in!

A Sportsday programme replaces the sports from behind the desk with the newspaper review. Reckon it will last til l quarter to with a newspaper summary at the end.

I was going to say it was recorded but I can see Rico Hizon on a small monitor in the background and Asia Business Report is on now on BBC World News. There are about 3 screens with the channel on. That is very useful indeed!

You were right about the back pages! Looking back on today, sports news on the channel seems to have a new energy and importance, with a new timing as well. It feels like it matters a lot more. This move has been solely a good thing for sports output on the BBC it seems.

Here's the graphic 'carousel' of back pages:
