Is there no way N8(maybe in conjunction with N9/TC7?) can broadcast 2 separate tickers, as presumbly the 2nd N6 mixer, that would normally do this, is unavailable while it's broadcasting BBC One news?


How does it work on overnights? Is the N6 gallery really operational just to add a 'BBC News' DOG and clock, when everything else is done from N8?

Desks, baking trays, lightboxes, colours, animations and fonts are - pretty much - open property. Attempts to protect design ideas would be futile, unless its a very specific symbol or title, and that costs money. You'd go to efforts like that with your trademark and logo, but not with every graphic set or piece of studio furniture - particularly when all those elements are subject to being tweaked and changed over time in-house.

There's been a hundred examples of the BBC being blatantly copied around the world - sets and graphics - but I tend to think that's something to be proud of, in a way.


And don't forget with companies like BDA Creative, Lightwell, Lambie-Nairn and so on there will be a big eventuality of one news service (TV2 Denmark) bearing a similar look to another (BBC News).

It's the same with RTVI (Romania) using the STV News music, guessing they would have had to have asked either STV or Paul Leonard-Morgan to do this?

Rather oddly just after 9am this morning the NC seemed to be using a breaking ticker from yesterday. None of the stories were breaking news this morning but would have been yesterday afternoon

This may well be common knowledge, and perhaps I've just been out of the loop, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I learned today that the on-board passenger information announcements used on the London Tramlink were recorded by the BBC News Channel's very own Nicholas Owen. Apparently, he's "a confirmed tram fan", according to the Croydon Guardian.

Nothing further to add on that - I just thought others might enjoy this random piece of trivia.

He is indeed their voice over - going on his Wikipedia he's a train enthusiast so quite a good tie-in! Shame we can't have him on our trams here in Sheffield, rather than the dull voice we get.

Voice s - the three routes have different voices. The guy on the yellow tram does sound a bit fed up with his lot though! It was much better when the drivers used to do it, as half the time they couldn't be bothered to do it properly, or livened it up by messing with the names / their accent. My favourite driver was the one who used to go "weeeeeeee" as you come over the bridge from Park Square to Fitzallen Square Smile

Can't say I ever had him Laughing Remember the drivers doing the voiceover themselves and they may as well have not bothered as it was just a mumble. The current voices are dreary on all three routes, I use the tram regularly and I'd much rather be hearing a voice like Nicholas Owen's!

I am also hearing from twitter and other forums that BBC News Channel is moving back to N8 in June when World News move to BH. N8 is news 24's previous studio and current world news set.

Any credible, specific sources? Plus, any real benefit from moving to N6 to N8 just for a year, apart from using it to move to during rehearsal time?

Well all reports on here have suggested only the 5pm and 9pm hours will move to N8 for 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock news rehearsals.
