Surprised they didn't just simulcast with BBC1 and show the announcement of SPOTY on BBC News. After all they show less interesting announcements as "news" on a daily basis.
BBC News and BBC World News simulcasting at 10.00 pm due to Sports Personality of the Year overrunning on BBC1. Mike Embley and Jamie Robertson presenting.

Probably because the Mary Whitehouse contingent would have had a good old whine about it on Newswatch.

Also interesting to see former BBC Sports News Editor, Mihir Bose on the Newspaper review with Chris Eakin.

This may not really be noteworthy but I've just noticed on the EPG, the overnights this week (Newsday appears not to be scheduled) are branded as BBC World News as opposed to just BBC News. Not sure what difference this may/may not make though!
Edit: Ok it doesn't look different at all. Gavin Grey is presenting, the usual generic BBC News branding is in use.

Amusing slip on the headlines just now. They showed a clip of Collete Hume shouting out to the Duke of Edinburgh 'Feeling better now?' as he drove past her to leave the hospital. As they moved to another correspondent she could clearly be heard exclaiming 'They've used my doorstep on the headline!' in a surprised tone and then laughing. She seemed pleased anyway!
