Yes, I do agree that they're a great pairing. However, and unfortunately, giggling through the headlines about the death of the dictator of a nuclear nation is not particularly professional.
Global viewers who don't know the Maitlis Sopel history will just assume it's a case of the BBC being disrespectful.
You and I know they're laughing about chocolate and that these two also lark about, but I really do suppose they were "sent to the naughty step" for this.
Can you imagine two of CNNs or Skys anchors laughing like this?
No.

Have I stepped into the rota thread by accident?

Oh come on, there's a time and a place for 'reasonable banter' between news presenters. God forbid if all anchors were as stiff as those found on other channels... Maitlis is an incredible presenter, across all programmes she works on. As for Sopel - legend! He attempted jokes with Sophie Long today...unfortunately she composed herself...

Yes.
The majority on here agree that the presentation is stale and uninspiring, and views on N6 are well documented. If ALL the presenters were likewise....

I am not disagreeing about banter. And indeed I have commented in my post on the known legacy of Sopel Maitlis funtimes.
But given the gravity of this particular lead story, I think giggling and laughing was misplaced, Newsroom.
At any other appropriate time: no issue whatsoever.

Any caps please?
Sorry, I see BBC News at work (and more often than not hear it rather than see it).
Perhaps someone else managed to catch it.
Would anyone like to see a version of it that's not just a cameraphone pointing at a TV?
(I hope so, because it's taken bloody ages to get hold of it)
It even contains a bit of additional banter at the start. And a lipsync problem. Oops.

Hilarious partnership with Emily and Jon today. She's just been caught eating a chocolate, and they had to restart the headline sequence twice, due to her giggles.

But surely the only 'global' viewers who would see or hear about this will be watching it on Youtube (next to the various other clips), reading it in an article (if there really isn't any news that day, and again that would almost certainly reference past times) or are reading about it here, where again you would know.
Edit: And thanks to Phil and 'thegeek' for the videos!

I love watching Jon and Emily, sometimes you forget your watching the news when they're! I wish they would have more days together!

Bravo!
It was a fun afternoon with those two.
I have no concerns about their off-guard laughter offending a nuclear nation, largely because North Korea as so isolated and self absorbed, they're highly unlikely to know this ever took place.
Besides, they're all too busy watching their own TV cameras, just in case they need to wail and sob on cue for fear of being shot.

Don't worry, my hands would be shaking too if I lived in a part of the world with that many police sirens.
