The AWEFUL hand over from the 10 to Chris Eakin... Shocked ...STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT

What is wrong with it? Better than crashing into a sting and Chris reading out the headlines straight away. The way they do it now, wastes a bit of time so that Chris reads the headlines bang on 10:30 and we get to see the front pages with both presenters.

Its far better to just get on with it, than spend two or three minutes with Chris flapping, wasting a 'bit of time' on a half baked paper review that the News-at-10 presenter has VISIBLY no interest in.

Tim Willcox regularly just says "thanks Huw" and then launches into the headlines, and it feels far smoother, no Sting needed.

Couldn't agree with you more! Chris Eakin seems to have big problems connecting with the presenter of the Ten, regardless of who it is. Always seems so awkward, the banter is stiff, often fluffed up and really quite difficult to watch.

I have to disagree - I think it depends on which presenter he's talking to. Huw always seems to engage, and sometimes make the odd joke, or whatever. Others seem to have a heart attack when they realise they're completely unprepared for the minute of unscripted comment on newspaper headlines. The way people like Martine Croxall do it makes it seem like the different newsreaders never communicate, or just simply hate each other - it makes them seem robotic.

Bit of a fluff up there on Newsday overnight. Cut to the sport after Adnan crossed over to it. Only to cut back to an empty seat where Adnan was sitting for about 15 seconds, very amusing!

Karin Giannone doing a good job of co-anchoring coverage from Rome of former Prime Minister Berlusconi's resignation this evening, including interviewing guests and doing vox-pops in both English and Italian, and doing a great job of translating between the two.

I'm always very impressed when I see correspondents doing this; even when they are fully bilingual, it's a lot more difficult than they often make it look (trying to think up interesting and relevant questions in either or both languages, while listening to what's being said, and having to translate between both languages, requires a great deal of ability and focus).

I get the impression that her coverage is being shared between both World News and NC, given the awkward pauses here and there; from the 2000 TOTH on NC, the headlines were presented solely by Annita McVeigh, before we crossed over to Karin, but interaction with London was with an out-of-vision Peter Dobbie, who wasn't in the NC studio when we returned to Annita for guest interviews.

There have been some been some very good discussions and interviews over the last couple of hours on the News Channel; I've not yet had a chance to check out how other broadcasters have been covering events, but the BBC's coverage has been comprehensive and thoughtful.

Don't think the News Channel has done a regional simulcast before have they for a big story outside of London have they?

The Points West simulcast will also be on BBC One HD.

News 24 did. They simulcast at least one Newsline Special from BBC Northern Ireland on the day of the Omagh bombing. (Though that would be a national simulcast rather than regional I guess)

They took Look North (Newcastle) during the Cumbrian shootings as well.

Did they ever take Look East during the Steve Wright murders in Ipswich? I can certainly remember Fiona Bruce presenting a National here.

I find it pretty annoying that the BBC News Channel is simulcasting the Rememberance Sunday services from BBC One today. I have the utmost respect for these Rememberance services, as well as the soliders who go on the line for this country. But, not everyone will be wanting to watch them, such as viewers of BBC Two who are not showing the service. So why should the News Channel? It's not exactly a news programme.

What I'm wondering is if the NC are taking the opportunity to save some money by simulcasting this morning and keeping minimal staff until they need to go on air. Either way, the NC is a 24-hour news service and right now it isn't covering news. Is World showing it too does anyone know?

World showed some of it, but cut away to a prerecorded programe at 1115.
I agree with you though - the Berlusconi news is quite an important story and I'd imagine many won't have had a chance to see it last night.

Was the Remembrance programme on BBC1 a BBC News production? It might have been produced via N6 so had to go out on the NC as well.

I think it's the BBC Events team that it is put together by

Nope - it went straight to network. N6 and N8 took a downconverted feed.

(It's also fed out as an EBU News Event, so you might have seen bits of it on other channels throughout the world.)

Strange things happening on the News Channel just then. Firstly Joanna Gosling introduced the weather which obviously wasn't ready and so introduced 'something else and then the weather' (the something else being an ad for The Andrew Marr Show).

Then, the BBC World News DOG remained after the 9:30 headline summary and when it disappeared, the strap that appeared was a strap that would be seen on National Bulletins (I.e. with 'BBC News' animating on at the bottom). Then the usual DOG and clock came up.

How, when they're in N8 and using N8's gallery, did that national strap appear? Odd.
