I also was a fan of the 2007 look, it was much better than the current look which has, as others have said, become very stale.
Also, I really liked the 2005-7 "News 24 Tonight" look.

I have to echo the sentiments of others on here as well and agree that the 2007-08 look was one of the best, my favourite in fact, just narrowly beating the 2003-07 pres. Just everything about the 2007 look, the countdown, title sequence, headline vamp, the studio, even the name of the channel (!) was just near perfect. It was also around the time when I became a regular viewer of News 24.
The best countdown for me was the 2005 version, just narrowly beating what came after it in 2006 and the one that came before it in December 2003. There's also something I really like about the 2005-07 'News 24 Tonight' opening. My least favourite look has to be the one that has been on air since 2008. I know it's all about cost-cutting and savings these days but, while it does unify the BBC News brand, the whole setup just looks so dull and uninspiring compared to previous eras. Although I do like the current countdown music.
I never understood why was the 2007 look used for such a short time? BBC eras always last for 4 years or longer but that was an exception. I agree it was much better than the previous post cream era look which was dull, dark and the music was so generic and a huge step down after the amazing and still best cream era.
I wouldn't mind them returning the 2007 look when they move to BH, it was seriously underused.

Maybe because when they changed studios in 2008 they just decided to revamp everything and start afresh. They could though have carried on using the 2007 look whilst in N6, I would have thought. When they moved studios in 1998, from N9 to N8, they carried on using the flags theme. A complete waste of time introducing it in 2007 if they were to just get rid of it a little over a year later IMO.
Not all BBC eras last for 4 years or longer do they? Remember the first News 24 look (the flags era) only lasted for 2 years, 1997-1999. Although did BBC World started using the flags theme before 1997?
Then it would make sense to have a whole new look and everything when they go to BH, it will be their biggest change yet. Of course cost cutting is a problem but they would have to change it eventually.
I remember the original "News 24 Sunday" opening titles...they were my fav! Shame they never used the newsroom much in the last studio...when they did during the 05 election, it was a nice change! And talking of that studio, the Christmas period they imported the Breakfast sofa into the pod made for a not unattractive setting, despite the small space!

BBC World had flags of some sort or another since October 1993. The 1993 titles lasted until 1997 when they were updated along with the music to be more in-line with BBC News 24.
For me, the greatest era of BBC News 24 was 1999-2003. The whole pres package was just outstanding then. The original David Lowe music was refreshing, the Lambie Nairn graphics and titles were clean, modern and stylish and the real set looked amazing. That all came to a crashing halt in December 2003 when everything was replaced with a far inferior version. Cheap-sounding music, unimaginative graphics/titles and that horrible red and while plastic monstrosity of a set. For me, it's never been the same since. The 2007 title update modified the boring and bland red and black design; the studio remained the same; and the music was way over the top. The 2008 update was refreshing at the time but I agree that it's not aged terribly well. It's all so bland and dull and not a patch on 1999 as was the intended aim of taking it 'back to basics'. 1999-2003 had strong colours - red, cream, white, purple, silver in a real environment. Now we're stuck in a shoebox with screens displaying a mind-numbingly dull 'newsroom' background and everything's red, grey and white. Very bland and dull.
My 1st anniversary of being a TVF member, and what better way to mark my first post of the day, than taking a look back to see how BBC News 24 has evolved over the last 14 years, into the BBC News Channel that we all know and (sometimes!) love today. All clips should be in chronological order, and should make us all feel nostalgic and bring back some memories...
That was really interesting - thanks for that. Although does miss the first set in N8(?) (the second of the flags era) in 1998-1999 - a period where there are so few videos!
I always thought that when they move to BH they will have a totally new look and the this era of David Lowe music would end with BBC coming up with something totally new, like Lowe's music was 12 years ago. This theme has been revamped as much as possible, there's not very much they can do with it now.
But such revolutionary changes seem very unlikely now.
[quote:0720324853="DarkestDreams" pid="726735"]It does show how long the current musical theme has been in use - 12 years now. Do you think the move to BH will mean new music?
I too am a huge fan of the 2007 look, however, I wold have like to have seen these graphics on BBC News.[/quote:0720324853]
