I wish they would zoom into that wide shot as well. It's annoying to see the left end of the screen with the newsroom backrdrop when the rest is showing a graphic/still of whatever news story.
'They' can't tighten that wide shot, since the Barco graphic has to remain within the 4:3 safe area of the picture. This is a channel requirement for both News Channel and World News.

Surely the better option would to design the graphic the same shape as the barco wall with the left hand third more "decorative" (as in, with no text in it).
Or is it to do with the way the systems work / using the same graphic in N6?

I doubt it is BBC World News goes out either 16:9 full frame or 14:9 letterbox.
I notice while watching last night that during the BBC whether graphic going into and out of a forecast there appears to be a few seconds of very high pitched hum.
Am I the only one hearing this? If not what causes it?
If it's relevant I'm in New Zealand and watch the channel when TV One opts-in around midnight. I've heard this noise both on analogue and DVB-T. I don't have access to Sky to confirm whether the noise can be heard there also.
Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place. It's my first post and I was torn between here and the weather thread

Thanks
We get this same high pitched hum on BBC World as well, at the weather ident. (Five balls, I think). It's been doing that for about three years, maybe more in fact.
Three balls is indeed the ident in question. My (probably wildly invalid) theory was that whether might be provided from another source and that the hum over the ident may be an artifact of the transition to and back from that source at the start and end of the weather respectively, but then I imagine the NC has adequate facilities and staff to do it's own weather

The noise you can here is the air-conditioning and computer servers in the weather studio. It is heard at the start and end as the presenter isn't talking but their mic is still live. Nothing too advanced, but that's what makes the noise.
