Naga has just trailed BBC Breakfast during the current BBC World News slot (The World Today), which I believe is tri-cast on BBC World, BBC News Channel and BBC1.

She said "coming up soon on this channel, join BBC Breakfast with Simon McCoy and Kate Silverton on the sofa". I have never heard this stated before on this programme, and the comment will baffle all BBC World viewers, who will have no idea of a sofa-based programme on this channel. And also, they won't know who Simon and Kate are!

Why was this trail done today? Just filling time, perhaps?

Cock-up in the gallery I think. The Breakfast trail is supposed to be in an opt that's only seen in the UK (an opt which had just finished). The opt was presumably running over, so the trail was, in theory, dropped - but the autocue person didn't move on and Naga read what was in front of her. She should have winged it and gone on to the next item - but didn't.

Given that news and sport both work with studio sets that are mainly large video walls, and need comprehensive graphics and comms facilities, I wonder if they have any kind of reciprocal agreement between the two departments, so that if TC5 has a big failure they could borrow TC7 and vice versa? (I know RTE have done election coverage from TC5 before now).

It's probably possible, but by no means trivial - certainly not at short notice.
The lines in and out of TC7, N6, N8 and N9 all go via SCAR, whereas TC5's connectivity is all via CCA.

SCAR is geared up to the same source working into several channels in a row - eg a sat truck doing an insert on the news channel, then World, then 5 Live. It's easy to route the same source to lots of destinations, but then you need to make sure the right clean feed is going back to the source, and they've a queueing system set up for this to mostly happen automatically. Things would get complicated if you started involving a main block studio.

Election programmes involve so many outside sources several temporary hubs are built (in TVC and elsewhere), which takes in all the OSes, and spotters there look out for interesting stuff to send to TC1, TC5, and to the Nations programmes.
I'm not sure if RTE used TC5 because of its flexible standing set, or because of its excellent connectivity. Could have been a bit of both!

What the sh!tballs happened at the 1500 TOTH? After the titles, we went to Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis, and they were both smiling at each other as is the double-headed norm. Emily read the first sentence of the Libya-MI6 collusion allegation story, before it became clear that she was about to burst into laughter, and ended up looking down into her lap with a smirk on her face, unable to go on.

I don't know if Jon didn't get the joke, or if he was just able to hold it together, but he finished off the rest of the story, while Emily was visibly giggling and struggling to compose herself next to him.

Something in the gallery that she heard perhaps?

Emily and Jon are always bad together for laughing and having jokes on air (and occasionally at inappropriate moments) - she was smirking when reading the first headline after the TOTH at 2pm.

They'd been joking for the past 15 minutes, though I think the 15:00 TOTH showed it must have got a bit out of control - good to see some lighter moments on what can be a stale channel, but it's a must to be able to go into serious mode again immediately if required

Ahh, c'mon, it's the liveliest 3 hours of news on the NC at all when they're both on. They still both manage good interviews and if they don't know what they're talking about, they don't bother to pretend! In my opinion, it's a shame they don't do 4 days a week. Would you rather Annita & Clive? I don't think so.

It is the best time to watch the channel, but Simon is also pretty good!

This should theoretically be in the rotas thread but this is actually interesting conversation compared to fantasy schedules!

Wish there was a video of this. Jon and Emily are the best couple they have.

The issue was though that in this case the laughter was evident when introducing the lead story on alleged torture collusion. Fair enough Emily looked down to try and hide it, but it was still quite obvious

Hopefully just a one-off though and laughter will kept to appropiate moments in the future

I love Jon & Emily together, very amusing watching them alongside each other sometimes, one of the channel's best pairings, on a par with Simon & Carrie. Although even I did find it a bit odd when watching at the 2pm TOTH, when they were reading the top story about Libya, and Emily just appeared to find it humorous, with a big grin on her face when Jon was reading his lines! When Emily was interviewing Security correspondent Nick Childs at around 2.15, still smirking, even he was looking at her bemused! I'd still rather watch Emily than Annita McVeigh or Luisa Baldini though, by a hundred miles.
