BBC News been running without any VizRT graphics since the top of the hour.

I noticed that, still with no graphics at 02:38.

Just something I've noticed - small point of interest. When watching BBC News live on iPlayer, the URL has 'BBC News 24' within it.

I wonder if the channel is still called News 24 internally.

I doubt it, it's just one of the old URL's that has never been changed so not to disrupt links on old BBC sites, like the Click website that still has 'Click Online' in the URL:

I really wouldn't be surprised if it's still known as News 24 within the BBC. Changing the name was, in my opinion, the biggest mistake they ever made. I believe the intention was to stop people from dropping the 'BBC' and referring to it as 'News 24'. Well, they've merely replaced one problem with another - now most people simply call it 'the News Channel' or 'the NC'. At least 'News 24' was original and recognisable.

The ratings have grown since, however, so it obviously wasn't *that* destructive a move.

Indeed, although that can be explained in part by the arguable decline in quality of Sky News, the reduction of the number of UK news channels, the gradual digital switchover and the greater integration of the BBC News Channel with BBC One. I do take your point, though, that the BBC News brand is growing stronger. I just think it was a mistake to replace a fairly well-known and original brand (BBC News 24) with an inferior one. I still hear 'normal' people (ie non-anoraks) refer to it as 'News 24' on a fairly regular basis, so outside of TV Forum I think the re-branding exercise was largely ineffective.

Has the BBC News Channel had a wobbly on Sky and Virgin Media?

Maybe it's temp files need purging.

Some new images inserted into the 90 second countdown going into the 10pm hour, including those of a poltical reporter (don't know his name) reporting from Downing Street, and Ben Brown reporting from Libya. I also think I saw some images of the rioting which has been happening in there as well. Still the same 2010 music though

Is it by chance that Laura Kuenssberg has been removed and now some images of Norman Smith who takes over as Chief Political Correspondent for the BBC News Channel added in?

Possibly. I think it was actually Norman Smith reporting from Downing Street. Wasn't too bad a countdown sequence but still looked quite a 'botch job' though. Really nice to have some of the images refreshed every now and again though. Could have sworn I saw Laura Kuenssberg still in the countdown, could be wrong however.

Seems as though they've now reverted back to using the 2010 countdown music leading into the top of the hour every hour, as shown at 11pm. Also the 'BBC' part in the red box has shortened back to its usual size
