The bright red logo has been in use for a couple of years now. It makes an appearance roughly once a fortnight.

It makes me angry.

That is shocking. Why have I seen that horrible version of the BBC News box before?

Because it seems to be a deliberate design. They do the same for 'BBC One' and 'BBC Two' as well when promoting programmes such as The Andrew Marr Show and Newsnight.

I was very surprised to see they used a clip of Jeremy Bowen interviewing Colonal Gaddafi.

They use that clip of Jeremy Bowen quite regularly on the World News countdowns:

Don't get me wrong, I really liked the 2006-08 version of the News 24 countdown, I thought it was the best music that David Lowe ever came up with for the TOTH countdown, I just find it strange that they've all of a sudden reverted back to using it. I knew at some point this week they were going to modify the countdowns to remove the images of Matt Frei, I just wasn't expecting that they were going to completely revamp the music, so soon after the current theme music came in just over a year ago.

However I do like the short, sharp swooshes on the clip in Jonny's post. Just a shame they're not in line with what's on the video, although I do like the swoosh right at the end of the countdown

Maybe we'll see the numbers '24' re-appear after 'BBC News' as well since we seem to be doing a rendition of the Time Warp at the moment. Smile

I also saw that knock off red box logo earlier, really bad.

They just need to scrap the countdowns and start afresh with a brand new set of them (on World and the News channel). With all the messing around of clips, the data swooshes are out of sync with the picture and that bad BBC News logo... what amazes me is some of the mocks on here are better.

It's quite an unusual situation. BBC News are normally pretty tight when it comes to branding consistency (the above example and Red Button excluded of course).

Laziness, incompetence, call it what you like it shouldn't be happening at this frequency. But it's a BBC TV wide problem: it seems people who have little knowledge, expertise or perhaps just a lack of care for on screen presentation have been installed as overseers of station branding. The results, across the board, have been obvious.

The boxes need to go; between 2002-06 they unified the channels but from the moment BBC One was allowed to sally off and do its own thing, that notion could no longer remain the case.

But rather than using that as the cue to move away from the system, there's been this bizarre idea of creating a new layer of shoehorned boxes to tie the channels back together... after the horse had bolted. It's succeeded only in creating the current situaiton of each service owning a multitude of different, increasingly slapdash logos. Clearly, designers are unware which one is the real one.

And I know someone will reply with a snarky "all this fuss over a slightly wrong logo" but the above example is quite honestly pathetic, has been occuring along with similar mistakes for nigh on 4 years and simply wouldn't have happened 10, maybe even 5 years ago, why should it now?

I'm not a presentation anorak (meant in a loving way...) but that BBC News logo annoys me.

Look North (Hull) have a hideous graphic to promote Peter Levy's lunchtime radio show. BBC in a box, misaligned text. Just looks awful.

Have they done a half-hearted effort to take Matt Frei out of the countdown because they knew that Laura Kuenssberg is going soon as well, so it's a temporary job for now?

Maybe they're just keeping with this one largely until they move to Broadcasting House?

It's very frustrating, I agree. The countdowns are reversioned by Red Bee and delivered to us in TVC.
Not sure why the music has been changed again, I suspect it's someone who found a copy of it and just decided to use that.
The current delivery did not include a 90' (pre 2200) or Loop (used before BBC1 Bullies at weekends).
Lets hope that when Laura leaves, later this year, we can rectify the issues with both the music and the patch... even if that means sending someone along to the edit to supervise!!

Is it out of the question for someone at the BBC to edit a polished, suitable piece rather than relying on Red Bee?

Why does The BBC News Channel and the programmes that use the BBC News Channel style of set consistantley look messy yet programmes like Newsnight and The Andrew Marr Show look impeccable ?
This has been the case for many years now.
