I take it that with Matt Frei leaving to go to pastures new, they will need to revise the countdown sequences to the TOTH as he features on them quite frequently. I remember when Natasha Kaplinksy left, it took them a month or so to remove her from them.
And even then I seem to remember them replacing her with a generic shot of something? I suppose they'll have to remove Matt from both the NC and WN ones, too.
I think Natasha was replaced in the 2007 countdown by shots of Mark Simpson reporting from a crime scene, those of which still exist today? Here's an example from October 2007 (sorry I couldn't find a longer countdown):

According to the ITV news insider on Twitter, he was being shown around the ITN newsrooms this morning. Not sure if that means he's starting work today or if he was just choosing his peg in the cloakroom.
The NC making use of the a different presentation area this evening - same as when the business/sport presenters do an interview in the studio.
Nice to see that and would be nice to see that area used in that way more often.
On the topic, there was good use of the screens just after the BBC News at 5 TOTH, with Huw virtually crossing to a correspondent explaining something at the side wall and was very effective.
A very abrupt ending to the countdown, with a wooshing sound as the BBC news logo is revealed. I can't quite put my finger on which era countdown it is.
I see they've replaced Matt Frei in that particular countdown, with an already in use shot of James Pearce at Wembley Stadium.
Wonder why they've changed the music back to the 2006/07 version? All for change but there's nothing wrong with the current music. Also the NEWS part in the BBC News red box looks very messy
EDIT: Bet they'll now have to go to the trouble of removing Laura Kuenssberg, who's leaving for ITV News, from the countdowns, as she features quite prominently in some of them.
