Don't they usually do some electrical testing in N8 about this time of year?

BBC Newsline's Chris Page is reporting from the newsroom in Broadcasting House, Belfast with updates on the fatal car bomb in Omagh.

The simulcast has continued in N9 overnight (and also into today on World). But, the overnight shots with the plasma and that bright white wall behind the anchor (side shot) is hideous. It reminds me of a bad visit to the dentist, for some reason.

The white is too bright, and the plasma looks as if the colour/brightness/contrast ratio is all wrong. I wish someone had captured it, so you can all see what I mean.

Over on another thread, someone (DrewF, I think) had posted a good image of Deborah MacKenzie with a different background. What time does the broadcast shift to N9?

That would be me, BBC WORLD Smile The overnight presenter starts at 12am on the NC presenting in N6 for half an hour - then a recorded program plays till 1am. In this gap the World presenter goes to N8 and the simulcast starts at 1am.

I think the News Channel is much better when it is simulcast with BBC World News. Mainly because I much prefer N8 to the News Channel studio.

Just an observation but why have virtually all the sports and business bulletins today been done from the desk?

They were standing for the sport earlier in the day, but just noticed both the business and sport came from the desk in the 23:00 hour. Interesting that they're repeating the business from the previous hour - I always wondered why they kept sport going through the night and didn't ever repeat business. Also quite nice that there's a look at the back pages of the papers between Chris and Ollie at the end, but how does this affect the through-the-night repeats of the sports, which use(d to use) generic opens and closes?

Freudian slip on the BBC News website at the moment. Red strap breaking news headline: "FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK TAKEN TO HOSPITAL, SOURCES SAY".

Hmm.
