I thouht he was absolutley fine. And I didn't see any problem with him and Maxine. It was measured, test book presenting imo.

Would this be the longest that the BBC News channel/BBC News 24 has had the/a Breaking News Aston on screen? The last time I remember it being on air this long was probably during 7/7?

Doesn't this get said every time there's a prolonged period of breaking news? It's been on virtually non stop during Michael Jackson, the election and student protests as well.

Speaking of which, I wish they'd switch to the "latest news" graphics after a while (which are inverse of the breaking news gfx). It does get a bit much after a while.

Agreed 'old style' serious and dignified. Felt as if being lectured, which is no bad thing, Superb.

There's been quite a bit of complaint about the Japan coverage at the expense of all other news. It's been said that 'how come they have time for a weather forecast but not other news'*.

I must say I agree - but the problem News Channels have is that if someone switches on and they're not covering a major breaking story, the viewer will switch to a competitor.

So why don't they do this...

Admittedly it's not perfect - both pictures are small, and there could be problems with framing and safe zones - but it'd only be for say 5 minutes per half hour, and - I think - has far more pros, in terms of being able to deliver more content, than cons, in terms of not looking perfect all the time.

(*they obviously do weather as it gives the presenter time for a breather!)

That looks unbelievably confusing and pointless.

I don't suppose that looks too bad Moz, although like Chris said it could be quite confusing for some

Although, do you know what would make that image look even better? Riz standing up, in my opinion. It would make it look a million times more presentable

Pointless?

It's a time like this where a twin channel use of the audio channels rather than transmitting stereo would be useful, for split screen, left for left screen, right for right and then use channel selection, which is buried in all DVB decoders to choose which screen draws your attention.

A shot of a BBC Breakfast mousemat coming into shot on the overhead camera looking at the papers. Its interesting to see the scripts on the desk too from time to time!

Blimey, that would be very complicated for most viewers!

I see you're keeping up with discussions elsewhere about tedious people.

The picture as posted is indeed just a mess and confusing. It's already annoying how much uneeded mess is on the screen at the best of time covering up half the pictures which frankly do speak for themselves nine times out of ten.
