BBC News Channel transmitting BBC World with Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami coverage.

BBC World opened as usual this morning with The World Today presented by Martine Dennis and Owen Thomas (Biz). When the Japan story developed, Owen joined Martine to provide rolling coverage and updates. However, the sound kept dropping out on World for some reason. After one of the sound breaks, we have come back to Owen Thomas and I believe Rachel Schoefield?? Not sure who has replaced Martine Dennis, or indeed where they are presenting from.

If the 845 showing of 'Newswatch' is postponed because of the News Special, is the overnight showing (345?) still scheduled to air?

(By the way why is the Saturday 'Breakfast' Newswatch never flagged correctly on the EPG, as it's a regular showing like the other 2 slots?)

Maxine Mawhinney and Martine Dennis both on BBC News for the 11am TOTH. A simulcast, I presume?

Yep, Maxine ended the 10am hour saying 'you're watching BBC News' - left a gap and said - 'and now the weather' - so I assume that World News were simulcast the news channel this morning.

Indeed, Maxine and Martine Dennis on now (nice to see Martine Dennis on the domestic news channel - a really good presenter).

It would make sense for the BBC News channel and BBC World News to simulcast for most of the day as they are both solo-achored on w/ends so putting the World/News channel presenters together makes it easier and provides one resource to 2 outlets.

Martine Dennis replaced with Owen Thomas at 1130. Good to see him on Domestically too.

Indeed...

With a very long BBC News sting beforehand because of the simulcast!

It'll be interesting to see what they'll be doing for the BBC One bulletin at 12.

Just a normal BBC One bulletin with Maxine - with a generic 'Welcome to BBC News' from her to open the bulletin so presumably still on World.

Yes BBC World is also taking this bulletin.

Owen Thomas is seriously overly enthusiastic and dramatic with his delivery. Found it overbearing on the ITV News Channel and clearly nothing has changed.

You can see Maxine's not very comfortable with his presentation style, Maxine Dennis was more suited TBH, I've always thought that Owen made a good replacement for Aaron Hazelhurst!
