Seems Emma Crosby won't be seen on the News channel anymore - what a great shame Five News has snapped her up and the BBC didn't... big oversight by the BBC IMHO. She was very good on the news channel and covering during the strike last year.

Thought the Beeb would have signed her in all honesty.

Not sure what just happened there. The countdown to the 1400 TOTH was the 'filler' version with no numbers, so I assumed a simulcast with World News was coming up. As the countdown played on, the theme music to, I think, Impact (formerly Impact Asia) crashed in over the countdown music, then stopped, before we cut to Tim Willcox already speaking in Cairo, with a live bug and the local time bug showing '15:52', which is eventually taken down.

Tim, having welcomed viewers to Impact, continued to do his headline precis of the situation, before we suddenly cut to Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis, looking slightly confused, but quickly gathering themselves and carrying on with the headlines - except the video being played out didn't match with the headlines they were reading, which was obviously clear to both Jon and Emily. As Emily began another headline, the titles suddenly crashed in, video and audio, after which we then crashed back to Tim Willcox... who was already speaking again.

My best guess would be that they made a last-minute decision against doing a full simulcast - but didn't have enough time to set things up properly for a joint bulletin that started in Cairo with World News and then opted out to do its own thing, resulting in the aforementioned mess.

They sometimes need a bit better co-ordination me thinks. Wink

Indeed. Although it is very rare that things do go wrong on the BBC News Channel. It is usually completely flawless...

However, we do need to see more presenters standing up

Indeed, if Jon or Sophie were stood, none of these problems would have happened.

Please stop it. BTW, it was Emily not Sophie.

Thought we were going to have to play 'Guess if Newswatch is on tonight' again, as things were running a little close!

(Someone did actually write in to ask if another regular slot could be found & Snoddy did flag both IPlayer & the BBC One(No mention of the News Channel simulcast though?) showing on Saturday morning.)

Does anyone know if 'Newswatch' has ever been contacted regarding the BBC One simulcasts (Good & Bad!) & if so, what the answer was? (Or does Auntie Beeb normally ignore that sort of question?)
