Okay, so who's bright idea was it to schedule a broadcast of Newsround: Growing Up In A War Zone at 2:30am on the BBC News Channel?

A part of me can't help but feel that that particular broadcast probably didn't reach a large percentage of the programme's target audience.

Harking back to the days of NR 24!

Pointless TOTH at 5pm today.

Only time for 1 story before the dreaded words 'We're going to be joined in a few minutes by viewers to BBC One' !

Is there no way BBC One can co-ordinate their schedule to hit a NC TOTH at a weekend, as it disrupts the flow & looks messy?

They can manage Sundays at 10, plus during the week as well, plus on the half hour, they can delay the weather forecast too!

If they can delay or extend the weather forecast on the half hour then there is nothing stopping BBC News Channel doing that at the top of the hour.

The length of weekend bulletins varies some weeks doesn't it to bring the schedule into line for the evening.

The one programme that does strike me as causing any timing issue is Songs of Praise. It runs in a 35 minute slot which causes the 5 past or 35 past timing for the news. Could it be extended or shortened though? If it was some weeks it might be hard to find that additional time?

Too often, when I hear calls for better design and more snazzy graphics and what-not, I fear that people forget that the whole point of the simplicity of the current BBC News design package is to ensure that the graphics do not distract one's attention from the actual news story. When the design becomes so eye-catching that it becomes distracting - I'm looking at you, Sky News - then the design is not fit for the purpose of improving one's understanding of the story without drawing one's attention away from it.

In my opinion, while the BBC News graphics aren't pushing the envelope in terms of pizazz and wow-factor, they're doing precisely the job that's required of them.

Well its personal choice really, Sky News' current graphics set maybe flashy, but it doesn't distract you from viewing the news. Yes, the ticker goes yellow now and again to draw your attention to Breaking News - thats the only really distracting part. Sky News have some wipes when going to a Live OB and into the Ads but their not overtly distracting at all. Its because they are more animated on how that appear and disappear off screen.

Sky News Astons wipe from the right to left, BBC News go from right to left. The simplicity of the BBC News graphics package is good, but far too basic. The BBC has access to VizRT and it seems a bit of a waste sometimes when the previous but one set of graphics (which was used from 2003-2007) was made using their inhouse system and was far more superior, to the current Gill Sans set.

Worzel - you had this argument about only two or three weeks ago. Please just read that.

Also 2003-2007?! With that huge text and absolutely unnecessary tower? No thanks...

Indeed, and I think that Mishal should have started off that hour, done the Weekend News, the perhaps introduced 'Meet the Authour' or the Sports and then handed back to Martine.

I can't remember the last time I watched Sky News and the ticker wasn't yellow...

On a note about that programme. The programme synopsis was 'Children in Afganistan'. I think are more fitting title should have been 'Girls in Afganistan'. Out of the whole 30 minutes, about 2 minutes focussed on the suffering that boys receive out there. Balanced... not quite.

I think there is sometimes too much emphasis on BBC One, over the weekend especially in this day and age of news channels. It really should be BBC One 'joining the BBC News Channel for a news update/summary/bulletin' over the weekend, not the BBC News channel stopping everything in mid flow because 'BBC One' want to opt in at a silly time for their own news bulletin.

I can understand the need on the weekdays for the 1, 6 and 10 being important - as these are primetime. Also I understand having separate presenters to bring you the bulletins. But, over the weekend... when the packages/stories/even running order are often the same as a news channel TOTH, the schedule should be better co-ordinated for the News channels consistency - and we don't need a separate presenter in the evenings, why oh why can't they use the evenings Duty News channel presenter as they do during the daytimes?

If the bulletins are so soon after the TOTH, why not skip the formal TOTH and delay it until 5 past or whenever? So, keep running with the previous bulletin until that time.
