Well said BBC LDN.

I just wanted to pick up on one of Worzel's points :-

Graphics, bring back the swiss font and give the Astons and DOG a glassy effect, its all they need to make them look a bit fresher on screen.

Wasn't the key reason behind the change of graphics to the much simpler ones that it allowed them to use the same graphics across the entire of the News output, from the News Channel to the local news in the Channel Islands, all using a wide variety of hardware and software to generate those graphics, all with different levels of capabilities. While the national news has access to Vizrt, and can basically do whatever they want with the graphics, they're constrained by what the worst equipped local centre can produce if they want a common look and feel across their output.

IMHO, the current graphics set, with a quick glance just says "BBC News" in it's look and feel, and does that far better than the previous graphics set (which I actually prefer). I don't think changing from the BBC's core font or adding glassy effects will enhance that "BBC feel".

I think you and other members are needlessly looking to make changes without thinking of the reasons why those changes could be justified.

...continued (for some reason, my post appeared to reach a character limit in the last paragraph - I think the Rambling Diatribe Detector kicked in).

But what I find irritating is that you, and a small handful of others, seem content to remain ignorant, ignoring the information that others share with you on here about how it all works, and repeating the same wishes over and over again in the foolish belief that you know best.

You don't.

Or to seemingly be attacked on here for having an opinion, and a valid one.

Maybe its just late.

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, but when that opinion is regurgitated with such frequency and with such ignorance of not only the facts surrounding it, but also the information provided by many to help you understand why your opinion is misguided, then it becomes infuriating.

You are perfectly entitled to believe that there is a genuine need for the changes that you described. However, that opinion - which is valid insomuch as no-one can deny you the right to have an opinion - is wrong.

I may opine that the moon is made of cheese or that the sky is made of glass. My opinion is valid because all people have the right to an opinion. But in that example, my opinion is wrong.

As important as it is to defend one's right to express an opinion, it is equally important to embrace the wisdom and modesty to accept that one's opinions may not be correct, especially in the face of facts and circumstances that stand in direct conflict with your claims.

To me there's no need to add more presenters standing - with sports and business presenters stood at the (larger) side wall, as well as Huw and George standing at the start of the Six and Ten; reporters presenting from said wall; in-studio weather in the One and Six and Film 24's usual set up, there's already a lot of standing going on there.

Sky, on the other hand, seem content on having Kay Burley randomly wandering around a pillar in the middle of nowhere, which doesn't work anywhere near as well as Jeremy, Dermot or Anna sat down at desks.

To me the issue is rather how boring the set is, but I suspect that won't change until they're in Broadcasting House (although they could just create an N6 clone when they do go, of course).

I did not mean to come across as attacking you for holding an opinion, but was suggesting reasons why your opinion, while not wrong, is far from a complete balanced view.

You speak of changes having a positive impact - how would you define such an impact, bearing in mind that currently the News Channel is the most popular 24/7 news source, viewing figures are still rising, and has become the default channel for many people. You have suggested several ideas, only one of which - graphics - I actually disagree with, but you only justified them as having this positive impact but have failed to define what this is - I personally don't really see how having the weather presented in the studio more often will make any difference at all to how people percieve the channel, so I need you help to define the positive impact you suggest it will bring.

I said in my previous post, that the alterations you suggest for the graphics will in fact weaken the branding of the channel - if you disagree with that statement, please debate with me on that, rather than accusing me of attacking you for having an opinion.

All I've said is that I think the TOTH's should be done stood up (like World News and the Nationals do) and perhaps the weather coming from N6, more often -if- possible - than from the CSO studio. That's it. Yes, maybe the graphics could possibly do with some adjustment.

Thats all I've said. I'm happy with a balanced argument and I do value those opinions against standing up to do the top of the hours, I still disagree as do some others on here. Smile

Graphics screwup - the astons were bouncing (literally) up and down before 11, and then they dropped all live on screen graphics.

Don't know if anyone's noticed (I only did today) but David Lowe's site has been completely revamped with some extra BBC News material.

I'm a bit confused as to what some of the audio in the members' area is/was used for...

Arrow BBC International Countdown?
Arrow BBC News Radio Cross Trails?
Arrow BBC World News America stings - are they actually used on air or is it just parts of the remix that was on the old site?

Seems the World News Today one at the top was another version of the BBC London News opening sequence, The opening shot there being the final shot on the actual titles, the tube lifts being a nod back to the original LDN titles along with the skateboarder and London Eye and the closing shot being the current opening shot!
