That sounds like the BBC One sustaining feed, if any region failed to opt for its headlines they'd get the Sport headlines.

that's right- it's known internally as DNET1, and is the version of BBC One that doesn't include any opts. The main BBC London News programme is part of the sustaining feed, and is cut up by pres in Red Bee.

Back in the days of Homechoice, the headend for many of their channels was in TV Centre. They were either coded (in the case of channels which originated locally - BBC, UKTV, etc) or transcoded from off-air satellite. Tiscali took it in house a couple of years ago, but it sounds like they're still taking their feeds direct from the BBC rather than off-air.

This could pose an interesting problem in a few months' time - I've heard mutterings that once BBC One HD starts, something other than BBC London may be the sustaining feed during the local news.

That's really interesting, thanks!
...and apparently this problem reared its head last week, got spotted, and hopefully fixed by now - so TalkTalk customers should now be getting the London headlines and news.

And indeed it's fixed, thegeek. Out of interest, was it purely because Huw Edwards was presenting tonight, or have all continuity announcers stopped adding "and Riz Lateef" to the end of the introductions?

I think with the advent of BBCHD last week they have stopped adding the name of the regional London Presenter, as that programmed does not appear on BBC HD, so surely we should now see the return of the regional BBC one London ident.

Without knowing anything about how BBC 1 HD goes to air (though clearly it can opt in and out of BBC 1 SD) could they not just record announcements for BBC1 HD?

Caroline Wyatt's report on wounded armed forces members in Birmingham, as the patients were transferred from the incoming aircraft at BHX to ambulances their faces were pixellated, fair and reasonable, but why then proceed to show a VDU with clear details, name and age of a patient, which I assume to be genuine and not simulated, being treated in a subsequent series of shots taken on the ward?

Error? Omission? lack of thought?

Maybe. But it might also be consented.

Someone missed that one of the demonstrators on Tom Symonds' report had "F*CK" scribbled on his cheek there...

I saw and heard a lot more than just that on the news coverage today. Sky were happy to keep repalying clips of someone spraying "**** them" on a wall, and it was visible in a lot of the later clips too.

Does the fake newsroom animate in the background anymore ( N6)? The lifts never seem to move, PC screens flash etc?

Yes it was animateing the other day when I saw the news, have to say I am used to the movement now so don't pay much attention to it.

Interesting, the News Channel has broken away from the One O'Clock News to show a statement in the House of Commons. The Vizrt straps and tickers are being shown, but the live and location bug is missing. I presume BBC World News is showing a bulletin as it is the first half-hour, so how is the News Channel showing the statement, and with Vizrt graphics? One O'Clock News still using Vizrt straps too, I thought the number of Vizrt machines was limited?
