Is there still a Saturday breakfast showing?
There is - I caught the tail end of it, and it finished at around 0801.

Interesting to see the News Channel have opted into Impact Asia instead of the One. I guess there wasn't a spare studio by which to carry on with the continuous coverage of the Anglo French treaty.

Update - at 13.14 they crashed out of Impact Asia and into the end of a two way on the One.

Pointless bringing Chris Eakin in for half an hour, unless he's staying on 'behind the scenes' in case we lose Washington?

EDIT : He's filling in during the US Ad Breaks on the Election Special!

He reappeared a little before 23:15 and covered some stories, so I assume he is to continue at least until BBC One joins Washington at midnight.

Edit: And I'm beaten by yourself and by another poster. Darn.

Have to admit I'm liking the BBC's coverage tonight, including the visual package. Nice backing on the studio screens.

I have to agree. I'm finding Katty Kay a little irritating though; she seems to be constantly startled, and she keeps getting very confused with reading out the results, frequently attributing the winning party and/or the winning candidate to the wrong state.

Overall, though, I think they've struck a good tone with the commentary, with the studio discussions, recorded packages and live interviews giving a very comprehensive sense of the backdrop to the whole campaign, in addition to the results as they come in of course.

I think they've also made some very good use of the studio - showing quite well that you don't always need an enormous studio with dozens of presentation zones to provide comprehensive coverage. With a conveyor belt of guests joining Matt and Katty at the desk, occasional hops over to Emily on the touchscreen (with a very attractive interface, and surprisingly readable and useful information being shown on it), and a pretty decent number and range of correspondents at key results across the country, it's been a good effort so far.

If I was being very picky, I'd also take issue with the slightly clumsy design of the House/Senate result counter graphic, which aligns very poorly with the elements below it. Still, Ted Koppel's appearances have more than made up for that minor disappointment.

Digging up a post from September:

That sounds like the BBC One sustaining feed, if any region failed to opt for its headlines they'd get the Sport headlines.

that's right- it's known internally as DNET1, and is the version of BBC One that doesn't include any opts. The main BBC London News programme is part of the sustaining feed, and is cut up by pres in Red Bee.

Back in the days of Homechoice, the headend for many of their channels was in TV Centre. They were either coded (in the case of channels which originated locally - BBC, UKTV, etc) or transcoded from off-air satellite. Tiscali took it in house a couple of years ago, but it sounds like they're still taking their feeds direct from the BBC rather than off-air.

This could pose an interesting problem in a few months' time - I've heard mutterings that once BBC One HD starts, something other than BBC London may be the sustaining feed during the local news.

That's really interesting, thanks!
...and apparently this problem reared its head last week, got spotted, and hopefully fixed by now - so TalkTalk customers should now be getting the London headlines and news.

Lots of different camera shots and Barco imageblocks being used on screen today, quite refreshing, Just need the presenters standing up now and again!

I agree entirely, it would be absolutely wonderful to see the presenters standing up every now and again, maybe sometimes at the top of the hour when giving the headlines

Also, it would be nice to see the countdown images being updated as well - I know they were updated a few months ago, but some of the current images have been the same since 2007!

As far as I know, it's only been done once - and that was on the News at Five with Huw Edwards about a year ago, for a story about rememberance day about this time last year. It's a bit awkward during rolling news, but at the TOTH I think it would look good
