Had anyone else even noticed that there were specific countdowns for particular hours of the day? I knew there were some that finished with TVC in daylight, and some that finished with TVC in darkness...
No, I hadn't. I don't actually think there are different versions for each hour. It seems a tad pointless if there are.
There are definitely different versions which air at exactly the same hour, every day. IMO, it does give the channel a sense of continuity
When did this start? There certainly only used to be two countdowns - a day and night version (albight both available with and without numbers).

It's been this way since the 2008 relaunch. There are 3 daytime versions - one shown at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, another shown at 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm (which has exactly the same images as in the 90s version shown at 10pm and 6am every day) and the other shown at 11am, 2pm and 5pm
I think there are also 3 night versions but not sure which times these air

I always knew there were different versions (mainly just the shots in a different order but because the full countdown is rarely seen that makes sense) but didn't realise they were actually timed. I thought they were random in the same way choice of idents is pretty random on BBC One and such.

The main 10pm version of the countdown being played out there at 20:59, with a shot of it broad daylight outside TVC
Can't wait to see what happens at 10 - maybe the images on the 11pm countdown have been transferred onto the 90 sec countdown?!

WOW! No 90 second countdown before the News at Ten junction! Just an extended version of the 11pm sequence
Wonder if someone's been tampering with whatever it is that keeps these countdowns running on a loop?

Seems as if the countdown schedule has now been fixed.
The regular 9am showing of the countdown there at 08:59
Some people who I can only assume are big Norman Lamont fans were shouting sexual swear words at him on BBC News Channel while he was being interviewed by Huw Edwards on College Green just now.
Did anyone catch the overnights last night on World/N24, with Naga Munchetty? There was something strange sitting either on top of the desk or standing on the floor and peeking up behind the desk, black and white plastic thing, like a heater or something? Maybe a convector heater? It appeared to be the size of a desktop speaker.
Whatever it was, it was very distracting and due to the camera angle, it looked as though it was sitting on top of her laptop.
Surely the gallery or floor manager or whoever is responsible, could check that such things are kept out of shot?
