That sounds like the BBC One sustaining feed, if any region failed to opt for its headlines they'd get the Sport headlines.

Hmm Ok, thanks for that. Still odd that I'd receive the sustaining feed!

that's right- it's known internally as DNET1, and is the version of BBC One that doesn't include any opts. The main BBC London News programme is part of the sustaining feed, and is cut up by pres in Red Bee.

Back in the days of Homechoice, the headend for many of their channels was in TV Centre. They were either coded (in the case of channels which originated locally - BBC, UKTV, etc) or transcoded from off-air satellite. Tiscali took it in house a couple of years ago, but it sounds like they're still taking their feeds direct from the BBC rather than off-air.

This could pose an interesting problem in a few months' time - I've heard mutterings that once BBC One HD starts, something other than BBC London may be the sustaining feed during the local news.

That's really interesting, thanks!

Strange TOTH at midday today - went straight into the titles from the countdown. Can't think of a reason why - there were no imminent news conferences or anything. Probably a mistake...

I thought London opted out for the symbol to do an anno mentioning the local presenter with a local symbol while network did something generic in case a region failed to opt for the symbol but did make the headlines, you wouldn't get a "with Sophie Raworth and Louisa Preston" announcement followed by headlines with Peter Levy.

I thought that was exactly what did/does happen?

It's the network announcer who introduces the London presenter.

Any reason the news channel is still using the N6 Breakfast backdrop?

EDIT: Still using the Breakfast backdrop at 2PM TOTH. Problems with the Barco screens?

Yep, still here at 4pm... could be interesting if they don't fix it by the late news...

EDIT: And the normal backdrop returned at around 16:25

Peculiarity at 5pm, Intro recorded VT from Manchester Conference fronted by Jo Coburn appeared to have been filmicised for effect.

I saw something pre-rec from the conference that was slightly pixellated and being played out (presumably) from TV Centre. I wonder if they don't have enough bandwidth to get everything out of the venue that they need, so have to either drop the resolution or drop fields getting the filmic event, but reducing the amount of data involved.
