Would they have done the BBC One Simulcast from N9, if things hadn't been fixed in time?

There is a clip on You Tube somewhere where 'in the old days' they couldn't bring you the late BBC News, read over a menu caption(post 1985), due to a problem in the studio & the news was transmitted later.

I guess that would depend whether TC7 could be brought into service more quickly, given that it has the matching set, however I suspect it was pretty clear that it just needed a reboot and it was just a case of getting into something via emergency cut to give them time to reboot.

With hindsight it would have perhaps been better to get Peter Gibbs to walk out of shot and leave that end board from the weather up, if that were practical in the confines of the weather studio.

I imagine that when the vision mixer failed they were able to emergency cut between the playout server and weather studio. Perhaps they need to have a source available on emergency cut with a generic BBC News slide?

Was it not possible to use the filler (that they use at weekends before going into the BBC One simulcast)?

I've just seen a BBC News thread in the main TV Home forum section [perhaps it should be moved over to the Newsroom?], which stated that there was some sort of fault at 2130.

Here's the video of what happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13w6qE2gUHg

Presumably there was a problem with cutting straight from the weather into the Shipman programme. If there wasn't, and the director chose to return to the news summary despite having it read over a picture of Ed Mililand, then I think that was a very poor decision.

It would've made the next programme start and finish early. They're meant to have a few minutes spare to run through the headlines.

. . . but would have given them a bit of time to fix the problem, even if they had to fill for a few minutes between the end of the Shipman programme and the weather.

But then no doubt people would've complained to Newswatch about it starting early.

Given that it was billed at 9.30pm on the EPG, it actually would have started bang on time, as opposed to a few minutes late with the summary.

I liked the countdown timer, but it felt rather badly timed to me - seemed to go on forever. Surely the BBC One team can better communicate how far away they are from joining the NC at times like these and at weekends, to ensure the NC doesn't spend two minutes on a countdown so BBC One can advertise something?

As I understood it from reading somewhere else. Once the preceding programme on BBC One finishes the News Channel know the start time of the news (the bits in the middle having already been selected and timed). The issue maybe that the gallery staff are not necessarily the same for the BBC News Channel as the BBC One bulletins - a longer countdown makes that transition smoother.

Anyone manage to get any caps of this?

Went on so long I thought it might last until the Olympics. Very untidy with an extended bed and constant repetition of the same shots (and I do like it normally!)

Barco screens don't seem to be working well at the moment. During the sport, no images or the sports backdrop were shown, just the standard backdrop - and the quality of the backdrop is very poor. The parts of the backdrop are also been shown in the wrong areas of the set.

EDIT: Appears they took E24 15 minutes early to fix the problem. They came back and everything is back to normal.

Not a dramatic difference but this shot seems to be a nicer shot than the traditional shot they user where you can only see the Barco screens. The camera seems to be a bit higher than normal resulting in you being able to see the bottom of the rear wall

Never noticed it before but the camera is very low most of the time (seems just a bit higher than the desk so you can see the desk edge)
