I Sky Plussed the 8pm BBC News & the 830 Leaders Debate entries on the News Channel.

What I got was :

830 Leaders Debate - FAILED

8pm BBC News - RECORDING, including 830 Leaders Debate & it continued recording until I manually stopped it around 1050pm.

Why did this happen?

Why have the Leaders Debate as a separate entry on the News Channel when it got taped as part of the 8pm BBC News entry?

It also **** up taping Midlands Today as well!

That's Sky+ for you. It fails, often for no discernable reason. I once reported a fail code to another forum and found that it was a code a few people were getting, but no-one knew what it meant (and that included Sky)...

I had one of the very first Sky+ boxes made by Pace and it was fantastic. Utterly bomb-proof and deserved it's tagline for changing the way you watch television. However as new features like Instant Rewind, Manual Padding and Dual-Channel recording came along (none of those were initially in the system), the software got more and more bugs and it failed more and more often. The Hard Drive died eventually and Sky replaced it with an utterly useless Amstrad box (it didn't actually last a week), then another Amstrad which sounded like a jet taking off, then a third which worked for a few months but was noticibly slower in operation and IMO had a far noisier picture. Eventually I 'joined' Freesat. The box I have (Humax HDR) still has the occasional recording issue and isn't quite as slick in operation but we haven't had anywhere near the number of fails we had with Sky.

I'm not saying jack Sky in, but it would appear that with STBs being so complex these days, crashes and fails are to be expected. Whereas a VCR from the 80s would (providing you tuned and set it properly) do what it said on the tin, modern kit isn't 100% reliable anymore.

Because the BBC didn't do a live EPG update at 8.30pm. Not your Sky+ box's (or Sky's) fault.

The set looks interesting, which studio are they using?

That's similar to what they would've done with major breaking news of the 9/11 or 7/7 variety then.

I can't remember the story but I remember switching on one morning & the EPG was still on 'Breakfast' at 1045am!

According to the sports reporter on now, there is water leaking through the ceiling outside the News Channel studio but "it is not coming through the door yet". She said it was roped off like a crime scene.

The news channel have just cut into news at 6 - they are bringing Gordon Brown speaking in Carlisle.

I know that this has probably already been answered, but where abouts in TVC is N6 located? Can't be good near all those screens!

Crikey, this is a tricky one. Nigel Farage injured in a plane crash. It seems they're not allowed to mention he's a candidate in the election today - and are only referring to him as "former MEP and UKIP leader".

Would they have been ok if they brought up a list of all the other candidates like they do in the run up to an election or do the rules change again on polling day?

The list of candidates for Buckingham is actually quite interesting in that the three main parties don't put anyone forward due to them agreeing not to contest the speakers seat.

John Bercow, The Speaker.
Colin Dale, Monster Raving Loony Party.
Nigel Farage, UK Independence Party.
David Hews, Christian Party.
Geoff Howard, Independent.
Debbie Martin, Independent.
Lynne Mozar, British National Party.
Patrick Phillips, Independent.
John Stevens, Independent.
Simon Strutt, Cut the Deficit Party.
Anthony Watts, Independent.

I've heard them (or Sky, not sure which) say that he's a candidate, MEP, former leader and senior member of UKIP, but never said where he's standing.
