My guess is either the next hour will all be an OB from Birmingham or (unlikely I know) we're getting a preview of the election studio

The reason for the BBC News at Ten and following period of the news channel going out upscaled on BBC HD will most likely be to achieve appropriate balance for BBC HD's output. Without it, BBC HD will only have given coverage to the three main parties. In the next hour and a half, spokespeople for the smaller parties will appear on the news channel.

There must be three versions of BBC News floating around...

BBC One - Normal - no DOG, no ticker
BBC News 24 - DOG and ticker
BBC HD - DOG, no ticker

Seemed to be a bit of a messy crash in to the start of the news on BBC HD there, with first picture then sound problems, though they seemed to sort it after a bit. How bad do things have to get before we see a BBC HD breakdown caption I wonder.... Laughing

I see the News Channel will be going out on BBC HD for an hour tonight! Has this happened before?

Is that not really odd? Unless it will be actually in HD, which I can't see being the case.

Is this the first time they've broken their "rule" that programmes on BBC HD should have no more than 25% upscaled content, then? I wish they'd sort out the billings when they make these sorts of decisions so Digiguide won't tell me Torchwood's on when it's not Crying or Very sad

I see they've got rid of the sliver of some animated graphic that was hovering next to the clock, but the graphics still aren't quite aligned properly - the white caption box is solid above the clock, but then seems to have a semi-transparent section under it for the rest of the way to the right. </nitpick>

Not sure - but the first Trooping the Colour on BBC HD was only about 50% HD - with the Buckingham Palace OB SD.

I suspect that the editorial balance reason will trump any technical reasons.

Did they take out the BBC HD dog ?

Or upscaled SD even. (They will just have upconverted the SD output of the Ten O'Clock News studio - so nothing on the news will be in HD)

Has BBC Parliament dusted off that 10 minute remix of BBC News themes that they were using with a holding caption between the press conferences a few elections ago?
Sadly not - they've just got a loop of their current ident music, which appears to repeat after about 30 seconds. Look out for it (often while they're waiting for a press conference to start) and see how long you can last before you go insane.

(I do have the aforementioned 10 minute remix on a minidisc somewhere. I'll try to find the appropriate cable and get it online somehow.)

Thnaks so much for this - I was opening that they would use it again - but no such look - did they use it for their 2005 coverage?
