Glad to see all that time spent on the new screens in N6 has been worthwhile. Bloody big black gaps all over the place at the moment.
Not moaning here, but there also seems to be a rather large gap were the weather is done in N6 during the 1 o'clock and 5 o'clock.
These werent gaps of a few mm between cubes, they were displayed on the cubes and were several cm.
Maybe they are having some teething problems with the new setup? I've noticed that when fast-moving images are used on them, they can flicker now and again and the picture jumps. (That and the hippy shake shake ticker! ).
The cubes do seem to generally match one another much better (and they seem to have modified the newsroom backdrop, the pillars seem to have some blue on them - looks really nice - adds a bit more depth).
Some serious sound problems at 2pm out of Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, no sound at all on Sinn Fein briefing, severe breakup on live backup report from James Landale. I suspect much relief as they switched to Goldsmith at the Iraq Inquiry.
I don't like to cross post but I feel it's relevant for this thread.
There's a bit of a discussion going on in the National News forum about standing up presentation.
It would be nice to see some standing presentation, as I have discussed on the news channel - much like they used to do on News 24 in 2003, it wouldn't hurt!
Standing presentations have their place in news bulletins
(no pun intended)
, but not simply to demonstrate the ability of the surrounding studio.
If the reporter is trying to explain a subject which involves graphics which are best displayed larger than themselves, then there has to come a point where the item is best served simply by voicing the reporter over full-screen graphics.
The use of the reporter/presenter standing in front of a meaningless moving image doesn't add anything for the viewer's knowledge, neither does a reporter commeting on an item about prisons standing in front of an empty Home Office HQ in Whitehall! 'Standing News' isn't the only pointless fad.
I'd rather see the money spent on news gathering, not gimmicks!
Just caught the end of the Five O Clock hour as Huw handing over to Louise Lear - he referring to previous reports - lots of laughing in studio. What did I miss?

I was wondering that too. I turned over about the same time as you. Just saw the end of this report and then this...

Maybe the report didn't play out properly or something. Did anyone else see what happened?
