Very clever and simple use of a locked on shot of live activity at Port-au-Prince airport being used this morning on the NC as video whilst interviews proceed in audio.
A live shot which adds absolutely nothing to the coverage at all - we know aid is arriving there, we don't need live shots of planes being unloaded in the distance to tell us that continuously throughout the coverage to tell us that.

What would you rather they showed? A locked off shot of N6?
I don't know why they can't always show the

World News America on the News Channel. I know most people prefer a national perspective of news, but their coverage of Haiti was excellent. In the breaks, we had Tim Willcox, and later Kasia Madera going through the papers and some other stories of the day. It seems a waste of time just to show 30 minutes of such a well made programme. Even still, they could put a full edition on their website.
I've noticed a change to the backdrop on the news channel today. It has more blue on the supporting beams in the fake newsroom, looks much better and seems to give it a bit more depth.

I guess the news channel wants a 'normal' half hour bulletin at midnight (normal as in from a UK agenda). Sky's Midnight News sometimes makes it into their Top10 programmes so I presume their must be some 'demand' for it

I see no reason why they can't put the full edition on their website or host it on iPlayer unless there is any rights issues involved. It might just be the fact the BBC don't think we are going to be hugely interested in an hour of news from an American perspective (although they could always broadcast the second half of the programme in the next back half hour). Might be worth an email to BBC News to suggest it.

I did e-mail Rome Hartman, the editor for the programme, but to no avail. He said that it isn't shown because News Channel bosses didn't think viewers were interested in international news, they wanted their British view of the news. I did make the same suggestions you made: putting it on their website or showing the other half hour later on in the morning.
If News Channel bosses don't think viewers want international news, then why even air the shorter version? And why air ABC News at 01.30? That seems a rather wierd reason
Another idea could be to show the full programme at 1am. Any segments for the breaks, such as a paper review or UK headlines could be pre-recorded. The joint service with BBC World could then start at 2am. And ABC News could move to 12.30am after the normal midnight bulletin
